    SSHRC 2011

Just received the letter. I received a SSHRC 'B' category award with a score of 28.3/30. Here's some stats that may help with future applicants? Entering 3rd year of doctoral program in September Graduate GPA of 9.0/9.0 A university fellowship and a number of internal uni scholarships and awards 1 international conference 1 local conference 1 double-blind refereed publication A number of non-refereed publications Finalist (albeit unsuccessful) in the Vanier competition I hope these bits are indeed helpful for others - Best of luck to all those still waiting.

Just wondering if anyone knows what role GPA plays in determining SSHRC scores?

    SSHRC 2011

Hi retirw- I emailed Grad Studies at our university each year (just after the internal university adjudication process) and they provided me with the information. I was also given my internal department ranking, which is the only one that goes forward to SSHRC - and scored 1 out of (only) 4 applicants within the department. Hope this helps. Not sure about your uni but mine seems fine with providing this - but you have to ask for the information.

    SSHRC 2011

sorry about the news rmckinnon. hope that you are still eligible to apply for next year. i still don't know my results but in applying the first year I ranked 72 in the university and 47 applicants were sent forward. I was so disappointed. This year in the university I ranked 19 out of the 47 applications sent forward by the university (and even though these intra-uni rankings don't go forward to SSHRC - it does indicate that quite a lot can change in a year). Regardless of the results, I worked incredibly hard and learned a great deal through the process. Best of luck to you next year.

I agree. Forum posts are easily misconstrued. I have noticed a great spirit of support amongst post-ers and appreciated it. Wishing everyone best of luck this week with sshrc doctoral announcements. fingers crossed all round.

    thanks dear self! apppreciated.
  10. Just received notification that I, too, was unsuccessful with a SSHRC Vanier - on the west coast. Still in the running for a SSHRC award though. Wish me luck! Congrats to those who were successful.
  11. Congrats Phalene- on your friend's success! Thanks for sharing. Anyone received Vanier notification yet on the west coast? Also, does anyone know if departments are given notification before letters are sent out for Vanier?
  12. Really sorry to hear about the Vanier applications that were unsuccessful. It's such an unbelievably competitive competition. Has anyone heard results that were positive from Vanier? or perhaps these results are not to be shared until a public announcements is made? I've haven't noticed anyone post positive results yet. Hopefully, those who received decline letters from Vanier are still in the running for SSHRC.
