I emailed SAIC a couple days ago and the email I received back said they would be making waitlist offers "within the next month" so it may be awhile, especially since they have to give each round of people they offer spots on the waitlist a couple weeks to make their decision.

I totally agree. My dad opened the letter for me and he thought the same thing, which told me I wasn't just being too sensitive about the rejection (which I was already expecting). Besides when a program is as competitive to get into as VCU I think it's arrogant of them to imply that everyone not accepted wasn't prepared enough and needs this summer program before they can get into an MFA. -

I finally got a letter from VCU Sculpture yesterday. It was delivered to my parents house in VA, so those of you out of state should be getting one soon I think. It also included the patronizing letter about how "if you would just pay to do their summer program you might be prepared enough to get into VCU next year" -

I don't know about graphic design, but I've always heard really good things about BU's painting program. SVA and Pratt have the advantage of being in NYC if your looking for that, but at least for painting I think BU has a better reputation. -
WashU's deadline to accept their offer is April 5, instead of April 15 so they might notify some people on the waitlist before the 15th depending on how they do things

yep, that definitely happened to me when I applied there for painting last year. I finally called the last week of March when I saw other people had been accepted and rejected and they told me they were still deciding on some people. I didn't actually get a real answer from them until the second week of April when I called again and they emailed me my notification. -

When my friend was accepted to the MFA painting program at VCU last year when he went to visit the school they said the summer program their "fun money". I think if you have the $ it could be a good opportunity, but it's an expensive program and I think it's mostly there to be a moneymaker for the MFA programs. -

I think most schools admit more students than they actually plan on having in the program because they know they won't get a yes from everyone they admit. I was waitlisted at Hoffberger last year and they had enough people accept their initial offer they didn't need to take anyone off the waiting list. I got a rejection letter from SAIC painting today so I'd still rather be in your position, plenty of people get into programs off of waitlists so don't give up yet. I know I've asked this before, but for people new to the forum has anyone heard from the SAIC fibers program? It's been a week since the painting program was making their acceptance calls so I'm thinking fibers has probably also notified the people they're accepting but it'd be nice to know for sure. -

I just figured out that if you can go to settings you can ignore posts from specific users, so I am definitely doing that for when she's let back in -
I was wait listed at MICA last year. MICA doesn't have a numbered waitlist, when they get the answers from accepted students they go back in and see who fits best within that group. I don't think this necessarily means everyone on the waitlist is evenly ranked, but I don't think they can give you a good answer about your chances of getting in right now/your placement on the list. Did you apply to Hoffberger or Mt. Royal?

When I was on a waitlist last year I was told that most programs don't make a numbered list because they're trying to build a program. After they know who has accepted/declined their original offers a school will look at the alternates to decide who will be the best fit within that group. Usually I think this happens within a week or two after the schools deadline for students to accept/decline offers, so if you don't get an offer by then the chances of getting in off of a waitlist go down considerably. It still is technically possible, as people who already accepted the school's offer might get accepted off another schools waitlist, but I think once people have paid a deposit their less likely to switch. If you haven't heard anything by the end of April/ early May it's time to start making other plans. A good program will hopefully update you as all of this unfolds, last year I emailed when they started reviewing waitlisted applicants and when all of the original spots had been filled. I wasn't technically taken off the list until August, but that let me know when the odds of getting in changed. If there's not a set order for the alternates I think you should step lightly because this time of year is stressful for people who work admissions as well and too many emails/phone calls could work against you. That said I think an email around April 15th saying the school would be your first choice and thanks for their continued consideration might help, since some of the other people on the waitlist will have probably taken other schools offers by then. -

Why I look at that site all it says it that my applications have been processed. A lot of schools don't update their websites with admission statuses though. Which program(s) did you apply to? I received a rejection letter from the painting program a couple days ago by mail, but it was at my parents house in Virginia, do it might have gotten there earlier than some other areas. I also applied to their sculpture program, and haven't heard anything yet -

SAIC offered me the same option last year and while I didn't end up doing the program all you have to do to be considered is schedule a 20 minute phone interview. They transfer your application and there's no fee so if you can spare 20 mins I think it wouldn't hurt you to keep the option open. A post-bacc at SAIC wouldn't be worth turning down an MFA program at a school like MICA, but in case things don't work out with the other schools you applied to it could be a potential plan b. -

Some programs interview in rounds, but whether they do is based on how they feel about the first round of applicants. I know Hoffberger and Mt. Royal at MICA both only did one round of interviews last year. It is possible to get on the waitlist at MICA without being given interview, and people do get in off the waiting list but admissions people aren't necessarily going to be realistic with you about your chances until they are ready to officially accept/reject you or put you on a waiting list. This is partially because they want to keep their options open and often the people you are speaking with when you call are administrators, not people directly involved in the decision process. The truth is not being granted an interview for any of the studio programs at MICA doesn't mean you're rejected, but it does mean you're not on the top of their list so chances of admission aren't great at this point. -
everyone on here seems to be getting/giving such good feedback I figured I'd give it a shot: www.heatherbeardsley.com

Mine is, even though when I review my application everything was there. I emailed them a couple weeks ago to ask about it and never got a response. All I really wanted to know was if my application was reviewed...I don't necessarily expect a school to notify me if they haven't received all of my materials but I was pretty annoyed they didn't answer considering I paid an application fee and I can see all the supplemental materials they say they don't have when I go into slideroom
