I received the award in Life Sciences - Animal Behavior, although my overall scores were lower this year than last year, when I got an HM. This year, I got VG/VG, VG/E, and E/E. Last year I had two Excellents for my Intellectual Merit; however I had two VGs and one G for my Broader Impacts. It seems that bumping up the broader impacts really helped. One reviewer literally cppied and pasted my broader impacts paragraph into the BE section for his/her review, haha. To be honest, it seems like the reason I was awarded a GRFP this year was due to the overall package, moreso than this particular proposal. The reviewers that gave me VGs mentioned some issues they had with the proposal itself, but said that based on the rest of the application and my previous work/publications, they felt that I had potential. Moral(s) of the story: put effort into your personal statement and research experience as well as the proposal, and it's always a crapshoot.

Okay, I said I was going to bed, but obviously that didn't happen... and I just keep waiting and waiting for Fastlane to load. Argh!

I have a hormone component to my studies and have been reading a lot of temperature dependent sex determination work, especially in turtles... such cool work!

Since I'm awake anyway due to nerves about this thing, I might as well keep studying for my prelims, right? (Preparing myself for the worst, though)

Okay, but the big question: Wait for the e-mail, or immediately check the list of winners? (Both are technically up at the same time, but in the past the list has gone up about ten or twenty minutes before I've received an official e-mail). For myself, in the past I've checked the list first for my name. This year, I'm thinking of waiting on the e-mail to find out. What about you, fellow obsessors?

Ah, thank you... in previous years it was on the Fastlane login page itself, so I was a little worried I was getting all hyped up for nothing (although that's still probably true )

So I'm not seeing the "Fastlane will be down for maintenance..." announcement on the Fastlane page. Do other people see it? I've cleared my cache, opened in different browsers, etc.

It depends on the budget. If everything with the budget is sorted out, you will receive an e-mail tonight telling you if you either got the award, got an HM, or were rejected. The year the budget was not sorted out, people received e-mails telling them if they were rejected, won, or received an HM; however, there were a number of people who didn't get any e-mails. Those were the top-tier HMs who were in the running to get an award if the budget allowed for it. Hopefully this year there will be nobody in limbo.

I am going to be cliche, having just been stalking this forum obsessively and only posting now. This is my last year to apply; I chose Animal Behavior although Evolutionary Biology may also have been appropriate (and now I am panicking that I made the wrong decision!) I got HM two years in a row, but I don't have much hope for this year. Really, the reason I signed up is because I need to share my obsessing! My prelim exams are coming up in the next week and I should be cramming, but instead I am spending my time refreshing this forum and fretting.
