  1. No doubt friend. I got the Fulbright IIE and am waiting to hear about the Fulbright-Hays before I accept or decline the IIE. Sorry to confirm this, but at least you know that there's a good chance some of the grants will open up for alternates once the F-H is announced.
  2. I got an email from my fulbright rep saying that his contact in DC said the Fulbright-Hays decisions would be announced "soon." Just thought I'd share.
  3. It was sent to my permanent address in North Carolina. I haven't seen it in person yet, so I don't know the post date.
  4. Take a year off. I'm not going to give you any of that 'real world' garbage, but spending your whole life doing one thing makes for a dull person. Go learn to build a house or how to weld and you'll have something to fall back on if you get your PhD and can't find a job. And other people's comments about languages are absolutely true- chances are you'll have to gain a reading proficiency of a language you may not really need for your research. Unlike a lot of other people I encounter in academia, I think being multi-lingual is the mark of a true scholar, so I think having to learn these languages is a good idea. But it's still hard to get two languages down while doing a PhD, so taking a year off and getting a head start on languages while learning a trade is the right way to go.
  5. Just got my acceptance for a full Fulbright IIE grant to Russia yesterday. It came in a big manilla envelope. BTW- I just came across this site while looking for more information on the Fulbright and figured I'd take the time to share my news. This is the second time I applied for the IIE- I was rejected last year- so I'm surprised that I didn't see this site before. In the end though, I think I'm glad I didn't know about this forum until after I found out- I would have probably gone mad checking this board every ten minutes. Good luck!
