  1. hey poli sci people i had a question for you. i studied public policy for undergrad and masters and applied for poli sci and policy for a phd now. poli sci schools don't seem to like me very much....i think i got rejected everywhere, still trying to figure out why...i'm very disappointed i know many policy phd students who take the same coursework as econ/ poli sci students and their dissertations have the same rigor. but do you think its hard to stay in academia after? no pure disciplines fits my interests, but i thought that i had a better shot at an academic career if i applied to poli sci. interested in social capital/ heterogeneous societies/ south asia / moral psychology many thanks! rejected: princeton, MIT, UChicago, WashU (social psychology), harvard, NYU (social psychology)
  2. has anyone heard back from harvard ksg?
  3. hey guys thanks for the replies! i agree this is therapeutic. congratulations to everyone who got their their first choice and good luck to everyone else...we should have most of the results in a week. i'm giving myself until tomorrow to completely rule out MIT, maybe they mailed a few out today...fingers crossed!
  4. may i ask the credentials of MIT folks....i'm still freaking out about the results. just want to make sure if i really have no chance. thanks! Waiting: MIT, Hvd (Psychology), KSG (Policy), NYU Rejection: Princeton, U Chicago Acceptance: none GRE: 660 (V), 760 (Q), 5 (W) GPA (grad): Policy - 4.6/5 - Ivy League, publications in int journals GPA (ug): Policy - distinction, top of my class - foreign degree Abt 1.5 years of research experience in multilateral agency in washington DC, including published work minus - no direct policy sci background
  5. maybe MIT isn't done notifying either...i asked the grad coordinator and she said they will send all letters by end of this week/ early next week. possibly most of these would be rejection letters, but don't give up hope completely. i'm trying not, but it's so disappointing though.
  6. hey MIT people...how did you find out? Are they still sending letters?
  7. hey congratulations!! this is great. MIT is my top choice. How did you find out? What are you interests?
  8. interesting...i guess if you have super credentials and/or more general interests, it wouldn't matter. i wanted to do something very very specific. i wrote to a prof in a top5 school a few days back and he said i had a great proposal and would be my advisor, and then sent another email - oh you didn't get in, i was not in the committee this year. this makes me feel worse because i spent months thinking of a research idea and could have spent another 5 minutes writing an email so they at least knew that i applied.
  9. to those waiting for NYU, i just got an email from the grad coordinator that they are still evaluating applications. any idea what's happening with MIT admissions...they fedex'ed selected applicants yesterday. so you don't get a letter today/tomorrow, there is no chance. those who did not hear back from chicago were rejected. i emailed a professor. i was also curious if many people emailed professors about their interests earlier...so they fight for you in the admissions committee.
