You are correct, I missed that one. In that case then, it's not unfathomable that all acceptances were sent out on Saturday. It's still a very strange move by ASEE, and breaks from their pattern over the past few years. I just want an answer, either way. They should know better than to let such a thing leak a little bit and then expect to be able to plug it without creating a stir. 200 total awards, 5 or 6 have posted here, so something like 2.5%. Still seems a little low, I bet we'll know at the end of the day.

I find hope in the fact that none of the Aeronautical Engineers or Electrical Engineers on this forum have posted acceptances, considering they account for almost 25% of all the awardees .

Good luck tomorrow everyone.

With such a low acceptance rate, it's not really suprising that only a few people have posted acceptances. What is really baffling though is that we know at least 1 person has received a rejection email, but no one else has. It could make sense for them to send out the acceptance e-mails first to give those people time to accept or decline their awards, but it would make sense to send out only a handful of rejection e-mails. In a field with a 5% acceptance rate for the NDSEG, I'm not holding my breath on this one.

And one other person with an accept, but unknown field. 2 awards 1 rejection

The first notifications were sent out at 3:33 pm EST? What time is it now 6:03pm? Either they're doing this manually, or they have some order to the madness for god knows what reasons. If the system were automated, this type of batch e-mailing would take a matter of minutes, at most... certainly not 3 hours.

Yeah being 11:00 here and having a long day, I think I might call it and get to bed early for once. Sigh, silly indeed. Though with the GRFP I got the e-mail at some godforsaken hour of the morning, like 2 am or something (my time), 8pm or so ET.

Hey, that's the e-mail I got too! But in mine the promised me gorgeous women as well.

Oh I can see it now "Email from NDSEG: We regret to inform you... lalalalalala.... PLEASE do not respond to his e-mail!" Response while drunk: "Hey! Here's what I think about your stupid fellowship, you can just go shove it right up your...."

Because you need to know what you're getting drunk to this evening. Could either be a celebration or a drowning of the sorrows. It's no fun getting drunk while in limbo.

Starting a little early, are we?

Coming into the home stretch!

Patience young grasshoppers, seriously. Last year they were released at almost 4:00pm UTC-4. It's only now just after 2:00, you guys can live for another two hours, promise. It's 8:00 here, and somehow I've managed to survive the day without knowing .
-
So what if I told you guys I just got my result notification?
-
The good news is that if you get a rejection e-mail, you don't even have to open it to know the result (if you're using gmail at least), as the first 3 or 4 words give it away, and those are previewed in your inbox . It's like when you get college rejection letters in puney little envelopes.

Ja, und ich lebe jetzt hier (Mannheim), aber mein Deutsch ist sehr schleckt. Ich mus mein Deutsch üben. Yea, April 12th, 3:42pm UTC-4.

Sprichst du Deutsch? Lebst du im Deutschland oder Ausland?

Statistics doesn't seem to be a popularity contest to me, I'd have to say the GRFP is more of a popularity contest. You sell yourself with well written proposals and promises and proof of broader impacts. The only way in which it isn't a popularity contest is that the minority card reigns supreme. If the NDSEG really does weigh heavily on (graduate?) GPA and GRE scores, then I probably have little chance. And in my biased view, I find those two things unrepresentative of the ability to succeed and develop as a scientist anyways. I'd rather have the NDSEG, as it more closely aligns with my long term career plans, but I will most definitely not be upset if I don't get it. I'll just accept the GRFP. Good luck tomorrow everyone!

I'm in Europe at the moment, so a 5pm ET release for me will be 11 pm here, and being a Friday night and all, I probably won't see my e-mail until Saturday morning... So, rejection or award, I won't know 'til Saturday. I'm hoping for a morning/afternoon release so that I can celebrate or drown my sorrows in the evening!

It'd be interesting if they told you your results today by phone, but if not, you can honestly wait one more day. I mean, we've already been waiting almost 5 months, what is 1 more day? Threads like these are torture for your patience. There's nothing worse than constantly talking about something you are eagerly waiting for yet have no control over. Yet here I am... Best of luck everyone! =]
