  1. I've done that multiple times. It's nice seeing your friends on that list. Hopefully, I can be validated with a DRA as well. Otherwise, it will be a series of scholarships/travel awards for 2-3 more years for me.
  2. I've got half a mind to start up my OGS/OSOTF/QESST applications today, and half a mind to wait til Monday's results. Not sure if the potential disappointment will motivate me or drive me to finish them up in record time.
  3. If the standard for the waiting game is the same as last year, it should end exactly on Monday April 15, 2013 at 12:45pm... Like so: http://tinyurl.com/cmubvqj Edit: mistake with the date
  4. Welcome! Hope you get to share good news on this forum soon!
  5. Lab's going ok. I realize we're about a month away from finding out.
  6. One CIHR decision letter for MissionRNAi wrapped up with a label that says "Do not open til Mid-April"
  7. Haha I submitted my application a few minutes ago. Working on the app til the last min FTW! See ya'll in April. (unless you know, you guys still want to drop a word in between during these 6 months, I'll check up)
  8. Thanks! And hope you guys do well as well
  9. Mine's from PhD comics. Like the character, I aspire to be much like him. As evidenced here and here. Here's hoping I turn into a post-doc soon also
  10. Well it's a glorious summer and the new competition is now available at this link. The deadline is October 15th and we find out about the results 6 months later (April 15th). For those of us who have another shot at applying for it, I sincerely wish you the best of luck. I enjoyed going through this process with several members for the previous competition, and I hope I will be able to do this again this year. Personally, I am working towards improving publications, writing a better project proposal and perhaps applying to one of the SHOPP priority areas before the deadline. Here's hoping for some
  11. Congratulations to everyone who was able to secure an award. I was fortunate to be one of the lucky ones. A couple of my friends who have CIHR funding are currently declining their offers, so hopefully a few people who are waitlisted will still get their award.... I still wish they would give you rankings like they do for the CIHR competition... that way at least the people being put on hold may have some idea of whether or not they have a good chance or not
  12. No update on Sunday...but that is expected. I spoke with the secretary in my department....he told me that he had a feeling that it might be after the long weekend Tuesday May 22nd)... It would be nice to hear sooner though
  13. I hope "Currently working" does not translate to "the whole system is broken, and we can't call anyone in to fix it til next monday"
  14. Logged in to check status...still no dice
  15. Publication Activity 3.8 4.2 Other Research Activity 4.0 4.3 Academic Performance 4.2 3.9 Reviewer Score 3.8 4.3 Training program 4.1 4.2 Scientific Activity 4.5 4.4 Research Resources 4.2 4.3 Training Record 4.5 4.1 Weighted Score 4.01 4.23 This is what I got. I didn't have a lot of discrepancy like you did... I also had only one first author paper, with some conference presentations. The comments were 2 lines from each reviewer. I felt that I didn't get high scores anywhere. A lot of people end up with 4.5-4.7s. I think I missed out there...
  16. Seems to be the theme of the year....
  17. Thanks Dal PhDer! You know, you've taken this quite well since the dissapointing results were announced. Kudos to you. I had 2 bad days, and I finally got out of it today (I think). Haha. Here's to the rebuilding process. And thanks for the support. Believe it or not, this forum has been rather comforting. Noooooooooooo. If you can't bank on one of these babies....I don't know what to believe in anymore. I'm sooo sorry to hear that. I was feeling bad because I got a 3.8 and a 4.2 in publications with just one first author paper in 3-4 impact journal. I totally feel your pain. Hopefully we'll get reviewers who think we're hot stuff too.
  18. Congrats to everyone who got the award. I didn't get it either. I thought I had a chance, but I was ranked 346th. Only the top 141 students got it. My apologies for the delay - I had to attend a seminar, host something, attend a meeting and then go out of solemn beers to celebrate the people that did get the award. Its crushing. Either way you look at the situation, its bitter to swallow. A lot of people have told me in person today to not worry about it. Everyone means well, but the initial sting really affects you. I don't care about appearing like a whiny kid, or having the wrong attitude. It really really sucks to read that disappointing letter. And dammit I'm going to sulk about it for today.
  19. In case anyone feels like emailing someone about this, here is the email to do so.... DRA@cihr-irsc.gc.ca
  20. Like MissionRNAi refered to earlier, Troll CIHR is Trolling
  21. Its beyond 11... In other news, a PhD student suffered from a ruptured artery in his brain at the University of Toronto. Officials say that the student in question was waiting to hear about his funding agencies, but the anxiety was too much to bear. What made the situation even more interesting was the fact that the reviews were done and processed over 2 months ago.
  22. If I could, I definitely would give it to all the posters here. 20 mins from a riot....
  23. Working towards Dal PhDer's prediction of the results being released between 10:00am - 11:00am
  24. I know a letter will be instantaneous. So I've got one of my iPhone's browser's set to refreshnet net, and will look at the results as soon as I get the letter. It's too bad, CIHR doesn't fund people who are first in line to view their results on Researchnet. If they did this, I think we would win for sure...
