  1. I'm an IR guy, so I can't really talk much about PT. However, from what I have known BC actually has a very good job placement record if you can find the 2007 article on PS (of course, things might have changed over these yrs). I think this is because of the Straussian factor. BC is known for its PT training. That said, IR,CP, or quant AP are all not regarded in that program. Since you mentioned the possibility of taking classes at Harvard...The Boston Consortium only consists of BU, BC, Tufts. Unless your advisor has good connection with Harvard faculty members (meaning an indep study w ur advisor while actually sitting in a harvard classroom) or it is not likely that u'll be allowed to take classes there.
  2. honestly i dont know how to make of this visiting weekend.. i like the fact that this program seems to be pretty laid-back. but i wasn't sure if this is because all the students we met are those who are just satisfied with this program.. this is a public school in a place where living expenses are relatively low. so i guess the meagernes of funding is acceptable. after meeting with prof moser i was told that he is looking at around 30-35 students out of 50 something admits. that said, you might still have a good chance to get funded once spots are opened. however, after speaking with some other students who are currently unfunded, the program seems to waste people's time by not telling some admits that they are not funded. some are offered pretty decent pacakages somewhere else. suggestion to the program: let your admits know whether or not they are funded at the begining. their time can also be very precious.
  3. As I have already seen several admits here I'm wondering if UMN's already done. However I received this message last night. Thank you for your application to the Ph.D. program in the Department of Political Science at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. At this time your application is complete and has been forwarded to the admissions committee for review. The committee will notify you of its decision as soon as possible. I'm just assuming they're rolling, or they are super slow in sending out decision... Any thoughts?
  4. Though there's definitely some virtues of being in a small program, you might also wanna take into account whether ur putting all ur eggs in one basket. In a bigger program you'd have to compete with your cohorts to gain attention from the faculty member you'd like to work with (which can turn ugly some time). However, there're always alternatives once you figured out at some point you rather not work with a certain people. In a smaller program with lots of attention from your POI(s?) does not necessarily translate into good relationships with them. This sometimes means you need to work harder (or kiss more asses) to make ur POIs love you. Because once they start to hate you, you're doomed. For me I'd say just visit as many programs as possible before you make any decision. Figuring out funding packages and ranking (after this new release in March) is important, figuring out who appreciates your work and whom you can work with in that program is WAY WAY MORE important.
  5. It's me. Email from Eric Davis with admission and funding info.
  6. And according to GSAS no email notification will be sent, via postal only
  7. I happen to know bc well. It's a great program if you're either a theorist of and americanist. They place these students pretty well. However, since they usually only admit extremely few ppl (4-6, not sure about this yr) with pretty generous funding, the majority of ur cohorts are gonna be ppl who study Plato. As far as I know there hasn't been ANY placement record of their IR or CP students. The faculty at BC is strong regardless of the field. But with that few students I'm guessing they can only put eggs in a certain baskets. Again, it all depends of your research interest. good luck!!
  8. Got in to UT Austin but funding's not mentioned in the email. Any one has any clue about how this thing works??? Thanks
  9. Hey guys it's my first post ever on gradcafe. just wanna wish the best of luck to all u guys. guess Duke's sending out rejection letters again....UGH
