  1. I'm also applying this year for MFA photography. Am currently enrolled at MICA's low-res. program, but looking at full-time programs this time. In terms of funding; I've got UC Irvine and UCSD on my list for that. Heard that U of Arizona, and U of New Mex. have good programs and funding. Also, U of Illinois. Want to do websites? Who's your dream faculty?
  2. karleysullivan.com yeah, this is great.
  3. Hi Peeps, I think it's time to share our websites/portfolios. I'd love to see what everyone's got on their plate, and get any feedback on my own work. I'm keeping it simple and applying to a couple low-residency programs: Bard, MICA, SVA in both photography and paint, as I just can't decide between the two. Thanks for looking! Here's my website: karleysullivan.com
  4. Hey, applying this year too. Any suggestions appreciated. karleysullivan.com

    UT-Knoxville

I got a BFA in Drawing/Painting from UTK in 2006. Only took one sculpture class, but overall the building is spacious and accommodating, and the school administration (back in 2006!) was reasonable. Knoxville is a folksy Appalachian river town. Nashville and Atlanta are both 3 hr. drives, the culture is outdoorsy, college-town, and big on football. 30,000 football fans. There's a sweet little downtown with coffee, a couple galleries (art-walk monthly), and new lofts. It's provincial but modestly open-minded, and the spirit is very independent. Somewhat of a magnetic field as people stay or return often (my experience). The KMA is the small and under-utilized art museum located walking distance from the campus. They show emerging artists sometimes; very approachable. There are a fair amount of scholarships available. I hope this tiny tidbit helps. good luck to us all.

    Photo or Paint

Hey Everybody, It's my first day, not actually walking in the door, but simply requesting the catalogues and joining this forum. As we all know, picking the best one is step one. Looking at MFA programs for Fall 2012, particularly around L.A. (favorite) and Chicago or in the desert (NM?). I am avoiding NYC due to a fear of people crushes and other reasons. If I got accepted to Columbia, suppose I'd move there. Nomadic practice (Seoul, L.A., Travel, Knoxville) for 2-3 yrs/ settled in Atlanta now. Taught ESL for two years, intermediate Spanish speaker. My painting mentor is Kristin Calabrese. Major influences include Sally Mann, Hans Bellmer, Julie Heffernan, Nan Goldin. Type A art student (Summa Cum Laude,University of TN, BFA 2006) I'd like to go somewhere academically and technically challenging with good connections Intuitive, labor-intensive artist. Myth/Actual dichotomy/Tiny Heroics/Antics. karleysullivan.com 1. Please look and offer any advice regarding painting and photography programs with LOTS of grants and scholarships. "I'm so broke, hard-working, and talented, sheesh!" 2. I'm a photographer and painter (paintings are made from the photos). It seems like the two don't meet when it comes to picking a department, any opinions? Best Regards, Karley Sullivan p.s. I love the warm weather, it's a factor.
