  1. Hamilton is a city that once thrived because of a vibrant industrial base but has now lst most of its manufacturing base. There is alot of poverty and hardship but the city is also very livable and has pockets of progressive politics. For students, it is very affordable. Mac is a great school, I have done all my degrees here. It's not Montreal, but it has many things to offer.
  2. Its crazymaking to wait. I got kicked out of the login for 24 hours on Thursday morning because I had logged in too many times withcorrect passwords??.. seemed like punishment. Had to sit up till 3AM today to get in, but thank goodness, it was good news. Hold tight!
  3. Social Work - approved! Holiday! Celebrate!
  4. The reversion list is the waiting list... I got on one last year too for SSHRC, but didn't make it to the top of the list .. as people turn down scholarships because of other funding, they don't accept. Since people can't accept SSHRC and OGS, there are probably a good pool of folks who have their SSHRC and will turn down OGS. By the way, when I went on the list, faculty said its a very good sign (especially for first year doctoral students) - good proposal, too many in the pot.
  5. Hi Queen's 11, I meant the workers not the government - see my avatar
  6. I agree, inadequate staffing is part of the downsizing of government that has been going on for twenty years - not their fault
  7. Hi, I am second year inn SW at Mac... how about you? Hopefully we will hear soon!

  8. I was just able to login, no change
  9. I think its wonderful to see public sociology grow, particularly in the face of the increased corporatization of universities, and the seemingly overwhelming forces of neoliberalism. The reality is, sociologists have often served specific wordly interests (i.e. elites) under the mantle of "neutrality" so to me, critical public sociology is no different - except that it explicitly takes a stand on the side of the oppressed. For inspiration, read a wonderful speech by Bourdieu "For a Scholarship with Commitment" or read Henry Giroux's work related to public intellectuals... Good luck with youir program...
