  1. I also received 50% from YDS. I was pretty disappointed considering I made a pittance last year (I really needed this aid) and in previous years 80% aid was pretty standard. OH WELL. I will be accepting and have to remember that I'm *choosing* it over two awesome offers (Candler full scholarship and Duke 75% with cheaper tuition and cost of living and higher paid internships). :/
  2. that's awesome!! it's an amazing school. btw, did we catch you sleeping 'til noon or did you take a whole 4 hours to post the good news? haha
  3. HEY! Have you visited both/either? These two were my top choices and eventually (with a great deal of pain!) I decided to go with Yale. If you'd ever want to have an actual phone conversation about it (posting on the boards can get tedious) just send me a message! I've visited both and agonized over this choice myself and I'd love to chat about it!
  4. I was in this sort of situation before and spoke with the YDS admissions office- do feel free at least to *ask* if you could hear about fin aid a few days before so as to make an appropriate choice/have the time to mull it over. They may or may not be able to meet your request but they will appreciate the time bind you're in. CONGRATS on both! Both are amazing schools. (I'm going to YDS myself.)
  5. holy moly, that's phenomenal! congrats!!
  6. Congrats, that's amazing!! Who cares about YDS with an offer like that;)! Yeah, that is strange/cool about ISM, though.
  7. Yes, they informed me of funding at the same time as acceptance. YDS simply said something to the effect of, "we know funding is important to your final decision and are committed to offering funding," but no specifics. I'm curious as to how it will work out but not too worried as those who have discussed YDS here have indicated that indeed they are able to offer generous financial aid. Anyway, I'm so thrilled to be going to YDS that everything else is small potatoes.
  8. Like the blank quote up there? haha. I messed up! Make it go away! OK, I too heard from Duke on Friday with 75% funding for three years for the MDiv. (Was surprised that they said for three years because as far as I understood, funding was reconsidered every year at Duke.) I also received a full tuition scholarship from Candler. (They gave me two weeks or something to let them know if I was accepting.) HOWEVER I will be turning both down unless I hallucinated the acceptance from Yale, it burns to the ground, or they offer me nothing Nothing NOTHING! This is all to say, hang on folks- two scholarships are being freed up just for you!
  9. Congrats on your acceptances so far! Would love to know more about the situation at LSTC, as I might consider applying there for a PhD when I'm done with my MDiv.
  10. Was notified by email of my acceptance to YDS (M.Div) today! So far have also been accepted to Candler. Still waiting to hear from Duke.
  11. Thank you for sharing this!!!
  12. Just prayed for ya' now;)
  13. Congrats to those who have heard (positively)!!! Yay:)
  14. Granting some kind of grace period for the blizzard closing most offices on Friday, given that we know someone heard two Fridays ago from Yale, does it *mean* something if you're not notified by the end of today? (That is, if you applied priority deadline?) Am starting to feel I've been wait-listed or worse.
  15. :/ well first, i'm thrilled for you regarding yale. that's awesome. still, wish i hadn't seen that. will now be hypnotized by the refresh button on my email.
  16. I just got off the phone with them and they said we should know mid to late February, which is to say, in about 6 weeks;). I'm going to have a heart attack!
  17. Thanks! Still waiting on Duke and Yale, Yale *also* being my top choice;). Best wishes!!
  18. Hi- I have been really helped by this forum so I'm posting my news, though I worry that these kinds of posts sometimes generate unnecessary anxiety. Applied to Candler for the MDiv on January 15th. Was notified by phone today of acceptance. *hooray*
  19. I applied to the Human Rights MA (now no longer in the LSMA program) and I haven't gotten a decision yet but when I called they said we'd know in "mid-May". I hope that's true and I haven't been rejected! I understand the motivation behind trying to figure out if this is a "legitimate" degree or "cash cow" or whatever, I really do. It's expensive and if you don't have a snazzy school on your resume already, it is at least an ego booster to get one now- "Or then again, it is, or will everyone be laughing at my "illegitimate cash cow" faux-gree?", etc, etc. I just want to say for myself that I don't feel like this degree needs to be ranked against any other. Just in this upcoming semester, I would be able to take a few classes from some of the finest scholars in my areas of interest. My work is my life (I love it!!) but I need to take some classes to jump to the next level in competency. I love scholarship (I even love buying fresh new pens and notebooks, ha) and I already know more or less what I will do for my thesis, which will make a real contribution to my work. Not because someone will see a snazzy name on my resume but because the research I will do will help people do the work I'm doing (myself included) better. And to me, that's all that matters. Good luck to everyone who applied!!
