  1. Hi everyone. I was just hoping for some advice about a program I am considering. The Master of Public Service is a new program at Waterloo currently in its first year. It's a two-year program. The first two terms are heavily focused on public administration courses, while the next two terms provide a co-op opportunity, and the final term entails a group research report. Basically, it's a public administration curriculum with substantial work experience, and a final research component (about current challenges facing public administration). Here is a link to the program outline: http://www.mps.uwaterloo.ca/programofstudy.html . Ideally, I would've liked to enroll in a program that was equal parts policy studies and administration courses, but I've found that you do have to choose between a policy focus and admin focus (mpp vs mpa). Does a public admin degree limit your career opportunities to the public sector? Do employers appreciate your practical, applicable skills just as much as your analytical, research skills? I was planning on pursuing the MPS (which is like an MPA) because I figured it would best complement my undergrad social science degree where I would've honed my research, analytical skills. What do you guys think? Any input would be much appreciated. Thank you!
