I just received four rejections in one day. Come on, Texas...
-
Received my rejection from Case today. This one really hit me the hardest because it was my top choice. I am yet to hear from Michigan, Texas, Northwestern, Chicago, and Illinois and by the looks of it (by means of interviews and acceptances by other PhD Musicology candidates), I only have a shot at Texas and Illinois. I wasted so much time, money, energy -- and the time and energy of my recommendees on these ten applications. Damn it.

Same. I know that feels, bro.

As much as it pains me, I must face the reality that I may pull a Detroit Lions and go 0-10 this season. I've done some research, but I want to hear that y'all have to say about back-up schools? Does anyone have any experience with Catholic, LSU, or Kentucky's PhD Musicology program?
-
Where are you seeing these things??
-
I haven't received anything from Northwestern -- no e-mail, no snail mail, no phone call. Nothing. I hope that's a good thing?
-
Yep. CUNY sent out their decisions today. :-(
-
That puts my mind at ease. I see posts here about interviews and when I see that I have not received any contact from schools besides a rejection, I get nervous. It's late January, I know, but I can't help but think that I will be 0/10 this season...

I applied to UCLA, Stanford, Illinois, Northwestern, Case Western, Michigan, UT Austin, Chicago, and CUNY. I only heard from one (Indiana) and that was for a rejection. Nothing else so far...
-
Indiana interview notifications are out, as well.

It's never too early to start sending gifts, or hold members of committee members's family hostage. Whatever gets the job done, right?
-
I think the earliest was Dec 1; I wanted to get them all done so I can focus on my school work, private lessons, ensembles, etc. Within a couple days I received some "Your file is in review" emails, but I doubt I would know about my results earlier than the normal processing time -- unless someone knows something I don't about applying early?

My PhD Musicology applications were submitted as complete (GRE scores, recommendation letters, writing samples, etc.) as of an hour ago. Now comes the hard part: waiting.
-
Good luck to you! I'll be running the rat race with you this season.
-
Never mind. I figured it out myself. I thank the 102 people who viewed this post without one response. Much obliged, MB

Hey there everyone. First time posting after lurking this forum for almost two years: A part of my independent study this summer is researching PhD musicology programs. I plan on applying this fall semester so I am receiving graduate credit to do what I should be doing this summer in the first place. Sounds like a great deal, right? A little background information on myself -- I will be a second year MM Musicology student at the University of Akron. I hold an assistantship through the department, but maintain my musical chops through school ensembles and teach a studio in the Cleveland area, but I do not take lessons (I don't have the time). My research interests include 19th- and 20th-century German and Russian music (Wagner, Mahler; Shostakovich, Musorgsky); film music, and opera. -- Anyway, on to the questioning: I have researched every program listed on the AMS website and I am down to fifteen (CWRU, CUNY Graduate Center, Columbia, Harvard, Indiana, McGill, Northwestern, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Cambridge, Hawaii, Illinois, Oxford, Washington U in St. Louis). However, I feel that fifteen is an absurd number. The number would be higher, but I am aiming for schools that have faculty members who specialize in two or more of the areas I wish to specialize in. I could narrow the list down to schools that guarantee financial assistance/assistantship/fellowship/etc. to all admitted students, but I would rather go to a school that does not offer within the first year (wild scenario) than not enroll in a PhD program because I applied only to schools that guarantee tuition waivers. Doctoral students, when you were applying for your terminal degree, did you pull out all the stops and applied to as many as you can? I know applying takes a boatload of money, time from your own schedule and from your recommenders' schedules, but did you feel like it was worth it? Regarding the GRE, do spectacular scores really matter? I took the GRE a couple months ago and scored averagely. I didn't need to take the GRE for my MM application to UA, but isn't the purpose of the GRE to prove that the student can handle graduate level work? Any advise is welcomed! If you want to know more about me to help answer questions you may have, please send me a PM. I am not the kind of person who comes on here to strut my credentials so that's why I have minimal information about myself in this thread. Much obliged, Mocha bear

Sorry to dig up old posts, but I am here to help Rowdy: Philip Bohlman (Chicago) Jesse Rodin (Stanford) Pamela Potter (Wisconsin) Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
