  1. Hello, I'm an international student. I've already acceped a funded phd offer from a university. But unfortunately, because of some unavoidable circumstances, it is not possible for me to leave my country this year. So, I will have to decline my offer. I've heard someone that if I decline my offer, I'll have to pay my full one year stipend to my university as fine. Is this true? What is the worst that can happen to me? Can the university sue me?
  2. Hello, I'm an international student currently doing masters in home country. I already have my Bachelor's degree. The masters thesis defense in my university takes a lot of time and by the I officially recieve my mastes degree will be December 2014 or Jan 2015. But the the fall session in most US universities start on September 2014. If I'm not unable to show them my official masters degree by September 2014 will that cause any problem for me? Will it affect my stipend money?
  3. My intended area of research in grad school is interdisciplinary. The school which I plan to join has many compulsory courses , but all of them are very easy. I was wondering will the department allow me to take courses from other department which are relevant to my research work or is there any restriction on the courses which grad students can take?
  4. If someone is not visiting a university on the visiting day, is it good to inform the department that you won't come?
  5. Has anybody heard back from University of Chicago or Princeton Computer Science theory ?
  6. Hello, I am international student planning to apply for Phd programs in Mathematics next year. My problem is that both my bachelor's as well as master's degree (not complete yet) is in computer science. I had taken my math courses (like calculus, linear algebra, abstract algebra) during my undergraduate years and my master's area of research is also very math oriented (algorithmic algebra and computational algebraic geometry). Will I be eligible for Phd program for Mathematics in any good university? And if even I'm eligible do I have any actual chance of getting admission given that I'm able to very good in the Math subject gre test? Thanks
