  1. Hi Clay made, I can totally understand your frustration especially what you went through last year with deferral et al.  For what its worth, my two cents below:

My guess is that you are high on their ranking and as per their estimation you are almost sure to get "some" funding but they cant commit till April 20th ( when the scholarship deadline ends). It may very well be the case that you are awarded the full scholarship but its difficult to infer this meaning from the e-mail

Going solely by these wordings, the key thing above is "some' which weakens your case of full scholarship. if they would have used the word "the' then it would have been a different thing.

Anyhow, April 20th is just hours away and I am turning down my offer. Here is hoping that my money goes to you :)

    All the best !

Thanks! Still waiting to hear from them. So frustrating but they gave me a firm date of 23 April as to when they'd be able to inform me.

  2. Unbelievably I was told I'd have to wait until the 20th to determine what my letter means!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot believe it. Could someone please let me know what their letter said and how they interpreted it? I'm going out of my mind here...!!

  3. Why don't you just ring them and ask?  This is really big news... I'd pick up the phone (or log into Skype) if you haven't heard anything by tomorrow...

I have phoned them already!!! I was on hold for so long, and living in London its difficult to schedule something at a reasonable time! Still waiting on my several emails.. This sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Has anyone else got a full scholarship or any aid from Elliott? How was it phrased in terms of the language? Every other school simply noted, my aid application was assessed and I've been awarded $$$!!! Dont know what this is about! So frustrating!!!!!!!!! I dont really want to post the mail in case its something specific to me, if that makes sense!

  5. I was admitted to Elliott but disappointed to not get any aid. I emailed them pleading my case and got a generic email back about how they will review my case. Since then, I have received an email indicating, well at least to me, that I've been awarded additional aid. No amount was noted but the letter also said that they award full scholarships to a small amount of students and that I should consider myself lucky to get some money!!!!!!!!!

Naturally I am excited but confused. Was I awarded a s full scholarship or not? Of course, I have emailed admissions to clarify but I dont think I'll be able to wait until then! The language was really confusing so did anyone else get this email? Or did they get aid the first time after applying? How was it phrased?!?!? Does it not mention the full amount?!

    I am so confused!!!!!!!!!!

  6. I negotiated with SIPA. They offered me a one year fellowship (are all SIPA fellowships for one year only?) of $20k but Fletcher offered $28k per year renewable so I sent a letter to the director of admissions and director of financial aid asking about any other funding opps. She wrote back the same day offering an additional $8k but still just for year 1. I have to reapply for more aid for year 2.

The day after that, they updated the online system to reflect my increased aid eligibility.

    my advice is:

do it- my professor from undergrad taught at one the top policy schools and he told me to use one offer to increase the other

do it in writing- i feel that it is easier to lay everything out on paper

Thanks and congrats! How did you negotiate with SIPA and Fletcher? Did you phone? I PMed you.

  7. At SAIS DC today. I am attending classes. PM me if you have any questions. I'll be here for another day.

NOthing specific but definitely post your thoughts on the admitted forum. I'm heading up sometime int he next few weeks.

  8. 10-year DC resident here...

Dulles is terrible because it's the major international airport and not connected to public transportation.  Reagan is by far the best but at least with BWI you can take the train into the city then metro from there to wherever you're staying.

Thanks for this! I have to fly in from London so I think my only options is Dulles..?

  9. I'll be at the admitted student days for CMU Heinz in two weeks and Chicago Harris the week after, so I'll report back on those two. If there's anything in particular people who can't make it are looking to find out about Heinz or Harris, let me know!

I guess with Harris, I'd be interested in hearing about how the faculty is. I have two friends in the program right now and one raves about the faculty and the other indicates that the faculty is not interested, not approachable and basically he regrets accepting the offer. So a little confused!!

  10. A lot of admitted students' days are coming up in the next two weeks. I'm headed to Yale, SAIS and GWU but will probably miss out on Fletcher, Chicago Harris, etc. So I figured I'd make this thread so everyone can update it with their thoughts as and when they've simply visited their chosen school or attended an open day.

I really think this open thread will be of great use now and for those in the future so PLEASE, PLEASE share your thoughts after your visits!

I'll update when I get back from GWU, SAIS, etc.

  11. I'd hate to hijack this thread, but is anyone else debating between Fletcher and SAIS? I love both programs but cannot decide! My main crux is Economics, I NEED a strong program for that and my career plans. I get SAIS is the better program when considering that but doesnt the fact that Fletcher have the flexible curriculum allowing Economics dominance to be of some factor? This obviously is a massive decision and ONE I ABSOLUTELY NEED TO GET RIGHT but I feel SAIS is given a greater regard for Econ precisely because its mandatory there. Fletcher's program is excellent too, especially with a dedicated business program too.

Am I off base here? Anyone with any thoughts?

  12. I'd email and get the right person to talk to. I'm actually looking to do the same so would appreciate any insight from anyone as well. I think the key is to be polite and not you know entitled I guess lol, although from what I've heard SAIS is terrible at this sort of thing.

Although, I will say something about the econ point you made. I was also admitted to Fletcher with aid and I'm seriously considering taking it.

Fletcher has an excellent program and the key thing is that its flexible and you can tailor it to your needs. SAIS is a great school for econ but gets a lot of good publicity on here because its the only school that makes Economics mandatory. I think Fletcher and Elliott have just as good of an econ program but Fletcher lets you tailor your course to make econ mandatory for yourself.

  13. Wow. This story is fucking awesome. Can't believe how sick the dating scene is at b-school. Intense 2-year environment of classes, networking, partying, and travelling with super smart, accomplished, and attractive women. *DROOL*

Your desperation for these "super smart, accomplished, and attractive women" will be so obvious that it'll be a turn-off for them. I dont know you but you seem to be spending money and wasting time on a degree purely based on a fantasy of having tons of sex with women. Its frankly pathetic.
