  1. First of all, rpm225: The contacts you have established with your POIs sound great. And I can relate to what you said about being tired of waiting already. I wish it was March/April 2012 right now. I contacted one POI thus far. One of her works was published in an online journal but each time I try to access it, I receive error messages. So, I decided to write her a brief, polite e-mail. Haven't heard back since. Though I don't take it as a bad sign...I know she is a very well-respected, busy person - I understand if it takes time to get back. Actually, one of my former profs always let's one or two weeks pass until she writes back, but once she writes back, I receive an entire BOOK. And she always mentions that I'm only an e-mail away from her. My hopes are that this is the case with my POI as well. However, I only contacted this specific POI because I can't read her article. I won't contact other POI's until around September, I guess.
  2. Same to you. And let's hope some more people join this thread.
  3. That sounds interesting. Wow, 20 programs is a lot. I think I can only afford to apply to 5 or so. Since my entire family lives in Germany, I also limit myself to apply to 'East Coast universities'.
  4. I have heard lots of good things about CUNY as well. I'm especially interested in postcolonial Lit./ Caribbean, US Latino, diaspora discourse. And you? About the GRE, I'll take it on July 18th. Still a month left to study but I'm nervous already.
  5. NYU and Columbia are the ones that most grab my attention. How about you? And will you be applying to Comp. Lit. solely, or Lit. in general, too?
  6. I will apply this fall, too. Have you already decided to which universities you're going to apply? I'm not all set yet, but have quite a few favorites in the NY area.
  7. I am looking for a place to stay between 22nd and 27th of July in New York City, since I want to take a look at NYU and Columbia. Couldn't find anybody through couchsurfing.com yet. It seems most people don't know more than a month in advance whether or not they are going to be around, which I can understand completely. Yet, I would love to have the security of a place to stay rather sooner than later. I'm 25 years old, female, applying to Comparative Lit. / Romance languages in the fall and am looking forward to getting to know people from NY. So, if anybody out there is interested in hosting me for a couple of days, please drop me a message.
  8. Thank you so much for your input. I followed your advice and tried to access it through both, different browsers and computers - NADA. So I went on and wrote her a brief message. I'll report back to this thread as soon as I hear from her.
  9. I stumbled upon this thread because I'll be starting my M.A. in August, but plan on applying for the Ph.D. in fall, i.e. not finishing my M.A. My POI has an article published in a magazine and the magazine is accessible online. However, each time I try to open her article, I receive an error message. Several days ago I contacted one of the editors via e-mail in order to see if they could help me out, but never heard back from them. Now, my question is: do you think I could e-mail my POI and ask her whether or not she could provide me with a copy of it, or would that come off as rude? Thanks in advance for any advice on this!
