    Thanks for sharing your time

    MGH

Just wanted to thank you for your response. My "when will we receive more info" question was in regards to general info about when classes start, and what incoming students need to do to prepare. Where I come from (state school), info is hard to come by, and if you snooze you lose. I received more info from MGH yesterday and today, so I'm good now. Again, thanks for taking the time to respond. I hope you have a great day!

A few more things that are on my mind as I make plans: 1. Do we need to get CPR certified before school starts, or will they offer us a chance to take care of that when the need arises? 2. What time do classes/in-house clinics usually start during the week? 3. What time do classes/in-house clinics usually end? 4. Does the school have lockers? (If not, I may need to invest in one of those roller crates for carrying books between home and school) 4. I received an email to notify me that my deposit was received and more info would be forthcoming. When will I get more info? (i.e., at what point should I call the Department if I haven't received more info?) I hope everyone is doing well

Who here is taking summer prereq's at MGH? I am not, so I'll be fresh meat in September. I've started some planning, and noticed that the academic calendars for the next few years are posted on the MGH website. I was happy to see them so that I could give my family some idea of how often I'll be coming home for visits. I'm thinking of renting a room somewhere off the Newburyport/Rockbury commuter train line, like in Chelsea, Lynn, Swampscott, or Salem. It looks like the rents in those areas are relatively reasonable and the train runs frequently, even on the weekends. I see that none of us here so far are from Boston... but does anyone have any insight as to good/bad areas to look for rooms/apartments?

    MGH

Hi! I'm excited too I was thinking of starting a new thread for our class, then noticed yours. I'm in California, this is going to be a HUGE move for me.
  6. Hey! Sorry it took me a few days to see your response. I decided not to attend UTA, in part because I couldn't get any solid answers on whether I could benefit from in-state funding. It all worked out in the end, though. I'm going to MGH! Best wishes at UTA, and thank you for taking the time to provide the information above. It's been really nice the way everyone has been looking out for each other over the past few weeks as we worked through these decisions
  7. My temp and perm addresses are the same, so I can't answer your question. Just wanted you to know that someone has seen your post.
  8. Congrats to you, too! Maybe we should set up a Goole+ conference the first week of April to share info on the programs...? Have you visited either school yet?
  9. I totally wouldn't mind talking about MGH after I go. In fact, if you want to PM me some questions, I'll take them with me and try to get them answered while I'm there. I will be visiting Vandy, but I haven't pinned down the date yet. I haven't contacted the Department yet about my acceptance (I just got the official letter in the mail last night), but I will call over there sometime in the next few days (after I have some available travel dates). I was in the middle of making arrangements to go tour UTA, but I'm thinking I'll skip it now... Have you visited UTA?
  10. Congrats to you as well! I just noticed that you have been accepted at every program I have been accepted at. Too funny! Are you going to the MGH accepted student info session? I'll be there- I got a friend to fly out with me to spend the weekend. It'll be my first time in Boston
  11. Re: Vandy... I emailed Lyn Smith and heard back in under three hours. I got in, which is pretty much a dream come true for me. I will wait for all funding possibilities to come out to make my final decision, but I am very much leaning towards Vandy even without funding. I will be moving to Nashville from California, so I'll be looking for a roomie. Anyone know if there's a facebook group or another forum thread open yet for people who are starting Fall 2012?
  12. It is definitely proper protocol to notify each school you have been accepted at whether or not you will attend their program once you have made your final decision. Regarding your POI issue, if I were in your shoes, I think I would send the prof a "thank you" card to show gratitude for the person's time and consideration during and after the interview, and you can also mention in the card which school you have chosen to attend. This way, you're letting the person know of your decision but it doesn't have to be the main subject of the correspondence. P.S. It's not a stupid question. We're all new at this.
  13. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Congrats on all the great acceptances and best wishes!
  14. I think the system messed your link up. Can you maybe give us some keywords that we could use to find it via Google? What's the name of the site? Thank you for sharing. If you would feel comfortable stating some specifics about what you did not like, it might be very helpful. Was it the city? Other students? The academics? The level of support from school administration? I appreciate your willingness to share.
  15. I would love to hear feedback on the program as well, and am interested to hear some specifics about the negative experiences people have mentioned. I understand there is a need for anonymity, but it would be very helpful to those of us in the decision stage to hear what we can. No program is perfect, and if we could have an open, honest discussion about the negatives people have heard, it would help everyone make an informed decision about where they fit best. I hope anyone who has information on negatives in the program can share freely here. Best wishes to all in finding their perfect fit. And congrats to the person who was the first Vanderbilt acceptance to post on the board!
  16. Thanks for your responses I will probably contact the CSD Department to ask if I can get any more information in order to help me decide which program to go to. Best wishes to all, congrats on the acceptances, and a special congrats to SLP-Allie on the scholarship offer at UW! You go, girl!
  17. So sorry to hear. I'm staring down the barrel of being away from my fiance as well, and the idea is killing me all of the sudden
  18. I applied to CSUF, but haven't heard anything back yet. I've been assuming that since they extended the deadline to March 1st, decisions will be going out pretty late. I got my first decision from an out of state school only two days after the Fullerton deadline...
  19. I have not visited UT, but am I thinking of contacting the department this week to try to arrange a visit sometime this month or early April. UT is the school I applied to that I know the least about. As an out-of-state student, I am especially interested in finding out anything I can about the potential for obtaining an assistantship, since certain assistantships award students in-state tuition... Also, I need to learn more about the clinical placements. I applied there because I am very interested in the bilingual certificate. However, I want the opportunity to work in medical and rehab settings after school, so I need to figure out whether I feel UT would fully prepare me to do so.
  20. I don't believe it would be weird. We are making very important decisions about our future, and I think most faculty appreciate that it's a serious matter and it helps to have a trusted advisor with you. When I toured Vanderbilt, one of the students brought her mother, who stuck with us the entire day. It never seemed strange to me, and I didn't get the impression that anyone from Vandy found it strange either.
  21. I toured Vanderbilt late last year when I was narrowing down the list of schools I would apply to. I came away with the impression that students there enjoy a high level of support and are very happy with their education. I have been in contact with a current student, and she speaks highly of the program. Classes and clinical practicums take place in a single building, which is called the Bill Wilkerson Center. I believe there are some off-site placements as well, but most are within the center. The facilities and equipment are top-notch and well cared for. Sue Hale (former ASHA President) is an Assistant Professor and the Director of Clinical Education. She handles clinical placements for students, and stated during the visit that she does her best to work with students to ensure that placements meet their personal goals as much as can be accommodated. She also talked about often being able to assist students in finding CFY positions after graduation. All of the faculty and staff I came into contact with were professional and answered my questions completely. Students are offered opportunities to participate in research if they desire. After the visit, I honestly have nothing but positive things to say about it. I hope this information is helpful to you.
  22. No need to apologize. That was a bunch of great advice.
  23. Thanks. Best of luck to you as well
