  1. I heard directly from IIE. It was processed within 2 days. Good luck to you, geografo!
  2. Just wanted to share this news, in case it might be of use to someone out there. It seems that IIE is conducting a "second round" of reviews, so to speak. I was left out in the "initial round" because my discipline is political science. They flat-out told me that political science is not an approved field by Mellon. Then, out of blue, about four days ago, I received an email from IIE saying that they wanted to review my original F-H DDRA application, and wanted me to forward them a copy. Needless to say, I happily obliged, and today I got the good news. I'm not so sure why/how this is happening, since their process seems to be impossibly non-transparent. Maybe they had some outstanding funds. At any rate, perhaps those of you who were left out in the first round like me want to get in touch with IIE. Just a thought...
  3. wow...I just heard this rather astounding answer from the IIE contact on that IIE/Mellon announcement website. direct quote: "Only those students who had passed the DOE review and who are in the fields defined by Mellon are being considered. Political Science is not an approved field. Theresa Granza" pretty bad. They can do whatever they want with their money, but I can't believe that they're getting rid of an entire discipline(s) without considering whether particular projects have humanities component or focus. well, at least, the answer is pretty clear-cut!
  4. I'm absolutely no science major. As I said before, I'm a political science major, and my research mainly involves site-intensive qualitative research/ethnography. I'm with you 100%. I'm also happy for anyone who receive this funding, but I would also like to know what the criteria were, especially if the Fulbright-Hays scores did not have much bearing.
  5. I can't agree more. I wasn't asked for permission by my campus representative. After scoring 104, if this really means that my application is not even getting a shot at being reviewed by the Mellon folks, I would totally feel wronged.
  6. My scores were 103 and 105, so an average of 104. Judging from what a number of people have said in this forum, I would--or perhaps even should--have been awarded a Fulbright-Hays (in normal times, of course). In the same line of thought, I guess my application materials should be transferred over to the Mellon folks, at least for further review. However, I have not heard anything from my campus F-H representative to that effect. What could this mean? any thoughts? About the only thing that I could think of is that perhaps my application is not considered "humanities" enough (being a poli sci; but I do have a lot of area studies focus and critical language and ethnography components). Also, those of you who were contacted by your representatives requesting your permission to (re)transmit your application materials to the Mellon committee, would you mind sharing with us what were the kinds of scores that received such a request? I just want to get a feel for what these scores mean for this one-time Mellon awards. thanks for your thoughts!
