  1. Yeah, that's what my application status says as well; I just assume I wasn't selected due to the acceptances and waitlists listed under the results survey. Perhaps there's still an outside shot depending on how many people accept the offers, but I'm not holding my breath. Also, they consider people for acceptance to an MA program so those acceptances may be forthcoming, but they're unfunded... Good luck to us all...
  2. Joshua Dienstag's "Pessimism: Philosophy, Ethic, Spirit" It's better than I expected.
  3. Same w/ CU-Boulder. Hopefully some of you were among those accepted. On to the next one...
  4. I suppose I should stop lurking and contribute my list to this thread. I've applied to a mere seven programs: Tufts Brandeis UW-Milwaukee Colorado State University of Colorado (MA or Ph.D) WashU Georgetown I'm a PoliSci undergrad and five years out of school, so am more hopeful about my chances in the MA programs than in the Ph.Ds. My primary interests are in ethics (applied, normative and meta) and political philosophy. I'm interested in other stuff too. I haven't heard from anyone yet, and the only results posted in the survey from any of my schools are from WashU's PNP program, so I'm still holding out a little bit of hope. Judging by the results posted last year, my rejections should start showing up around the end of this month... Good luck everybody!
  5. This is more of a general question about personal history, and less about a specific SoP, but maybe some people here can help me out. Is there any general consensus on military experience and its possible benefit (or detriment) to one’s application? In my case, I graduated from a service academy several years ago and served the active duty commitment required of me after graduation, and am now applying for graduate programs in the hopes of leaving the military for civilian life. My graduate ambitions are to study philosophy and focus in ethics, applied ethics and moral epistemology, and while they’ve arisen in part due to my experiences I’m reluctant to make this aspect of myself a central part of my application. I think I have a application that is competitive enough in its own right: 1400+ GRE, solid recommendations, and a good writing sample, so should I bother mentioning the military outside the boxes of applications entitled ‘work experience?’
  6. Just glancing at your CAT scores, I'd warn to expect scores more in line w/ your Powerprep results than the Kaplan CATs, especially on the verbal section. Kaplan seems to score the verbal section quite generously...
