  1. That didn't quite come off the way that it I wanted it to. I should have added that I think anyone who would have been awarded both grants should ideally have been given some sort of recognition that could be put on a resume. On another note, I wonder if recipients of the IIE International Research grant will want to form some sort of online group, perhaps on Facebook or Google+, to network and share information.
  2. I was discouraged from applying for a Fulbright. They said I had too many years overseas experience.
  3. Congratulations! We're back to linear time, thank goodness... The franking machine story is really funny. It's my new favorite word.
  4. In my case, it was more than half, perhaps because I have dependents, but its really been impossible for me so far to tell from the materials.
  5. Yes, how could I have possibly neglected that important detail. The postage, in red ink, is indeed stamped "Pitney Bowes." Franking machine -- that's a new word for me. You sound like someone who knows about these things. I assume that this is first-class mail, or something even slower? It was mailed on July 15, so it took its good time getting here.
  6. Pretty much as described by Fawcett. Congratulations letter, acceptance forms, information, administrative stuff. From my quick glance through these materials: The fellowship consists of a one-time payment of about 40% of the total amount for travel and first three months' maintenance, with the rest to be disbursed every three months or so. I cannot figure out how they calculated the fellowship amount. It might be a combination of expenses plus maintenance allowance; it might be standard amount by region, number of dependents, whatever; or it might be a percentage (nearly 100%) of the maintenance allowance. Health insurance is paid separately directly to the insurer.
  7. Agree that an editorial or some sort of gesture is in order. Envelopes are out. Just got mine. I'm about a five hours' drive from NYC.
