Yeah, you're right. I'm just trying to manage expectations
-
Yep, this is basically what I was thinking too...
-
Sorry to obsess over Yale, but another thought that just occurred to me is this: is it possible that people who've been accepted have already been notified and rejections come later? (It seems, from last year's thread, that some successful candidates found out around the 6th or the 7th). I wasn't super-confident about my interview, so I don't have any particular high expectations...

Thanks for the input, everyone! So, I guess the consensus seems to be that we may have another week or so for Yale.
-
P.S. What is going on with Yale? It seems that by this time last year they had sent out decisions, right? Do you think it's coming on Friday?
-
Looks like it was another roller coaster day on the thread! Congrats to everyone who got accepted! Condolences to those who didn't - hang in there, guys!

Congrats TMP!!!!
-
Ah, right. Thanks!

Yeah, my info says this week for Yale and Princeton as well. For Princeton, I guess it depends on whether the info is coming via mail or email. If mail, then it might be posted this week and may not get here until next (unless POIs informally let people know). I could be wrong, but I didn't see a decision page on the Princeton application. Yale, on the other hand, has a message center on the online app, where the decision may arrive this week.

Yeah, I have a feeling that this week is going to bring news from some of my schools (none have sent decisions yet). I realized this morning that I'm kind of okay with the waiting period, and I wouldn't mind it being a bit longer. The waiting period is at least a hopeful time - you think anything is possible. I like that feeling before decisions start landing on my desk with a cold, hard thud. Good luck all!

Congrats goldie and telemaque and everyone else!!
-
Oh and major congrats to everyone who has received good news in the last couple of days!

Happy Saturday, everyone! Just thought I'd add my weekend news as well: I just heard from POI at NYU, and I have been invited to the visiting weekend later in the month. I am very excited, as I really admire the work of historians in my sub-field at NYU. BUT, I also know that getting invited to the weekend is no guarantee of admission, so I will not be popping open the champagne just yet.

Congats goldielocks!!

lol, awww! Good morning! I have the day off work today, which means more time to obsess...
-
So, according to New England Nat's earlier post, Princeton will have made the decisions already, right? (if they were planning on finishing before the Feb 6 term start). It's kind of scary to think that decisions are already made...Anyone have any news? And, any post-interview news from Yale?
-
I know!! Honestly, this week I have been so unproductive at work because I keep thinking about applications! We're discouraged from browsing the internet for non-work related activities, so I can't even get my fix here!

Looks like it was another eventful day on the thread! Congrats to everyone who got acceptances and other happy news! For those who weren't so lucky, chin up! I'm sure good news is just around the corner.

Here's my theory about Yale (based totally on speculation and not on any insider knowledge, so feel free to poke holes if you know otherwise). The Department has been asked to do interviews, and I think they are leaving it up to POIs how they want to do them. Some POIs are doing actual, formal interviews, where they are interviewing a few candidates and will make selections. Others, I think, are just selecting the candidates they want to admit, and then doing an informal chat and letting that be the "interview". That's why I don't think this process is done and people could probably still hear back. Anyway, just a theory. Could be totally wrong.

Just got home from work, and what is the first thing I check? Grad Cafe, of course! Looks like the threads were busy today! Welcome to all the newcomers! And, taybaxter, congrats on the Washington U acceptance!! That's amazing!

Hope your dream comes true goldie! I feel silly sharing this, but what the hey, we're among friends. I had a dream a couple of weeks ago that I received a letter from Yale. But, it was written in such complex, legalistic language that I couldn't figure out whether I had been accepted or rejected. Eventually, I had to get a lawyer to interpret it for me. But, I think I woke up before the lawyer could give his opinion! Hugely frustrating! I'm sure the material is rife with possibilities for psychoanalysis...

Doesn't Michigan have a Centre for Middle Eastern Studies or something? Maybe the poster meant that program rather than the History department? Or maybe he/she is doing the joint program in History and Anthropology with a focus on the Middle East? Who really knows. These results forms are not the best designed, so it's possible that people don't know what exactly to enter.

Thanks for the response. From your experience last year, do you know of timelines / processes at any other schools (i.e, when to expect to hear, how decisions are sent, etc)?
-
3. If I am ever DGS at a History Department, I will institute a policy whereby applicants will know exactly when they expect to hear. There will be a timeline available on the website even before people apply. Something like this... December 15: Applications Due January 5: Applications Sent to Department February 1: Decisions available
