  1. Ah, those mass UIUC rejections finally came in. Took them a while - now I just need to wait for UCSB and GATech. Speaking of which, golf4729, I'm in same boat as you - admitted to UMich but no word on funding at all - it's very frustrating.
  2. Won't be surprised at all. I have almost resigned myself to UMich anyway (not to knock on its education quality, but the freezing midwest is a bit...)
  3. Anyone know what is going on with UC Santa Barbara and GeorgiaTech? No word from them at all and it's very annoying. If they are going to reject me I wish they can make it quick - I am itching to start my preparations for UMich. Also I hear UIUC will be sending out replies (i.e. mass rejections) tomorrow so I also wish that would happen quickly.
  4. Hello I am enrolled in ECE MEng at Cornell right now and I am doing research. You can do research - it's tricky and the way to do it is less well-known. Most MEng students here are doing "projects" but you can do the "research track" if you so desire. You'll have to write a research track proposal, enroll in 7 credits of research / semester. Some people use the research track as a way to get into the PhD program...you can make the switch to PhD in Spring if you can convince your advisor to recommend you when the time comes. Hope that helps.
  5. Still waiting here....and also for UCSD too...(plus a bunch of other schools) What's up with schools taking an awful long time? At this rate I won't need to "make a decision" at all - all I'd end up having is Michigan LOL
  6. I applied to UCLA last year for Masters, and I wasn't contacted by a professor until something like late March/Early April. Basically, they don't flush you out of the admissions system, but you won't be contacted at all until a professor "picks" you and acts upon your application. So keep waiting but know that the longer you wait, the less the chances.
  7. Hello, I'm a Cornell MEng student right now. It's mostly for people who are planning to go into the industry and work, but doesn't mean it's stopping you from moving onto a PhD after you get your MEng. You can: 1) Use the work you did here and apply to other PhD programs. This is what I did, and I just got accepted to PhD at Michigan. 2) Enroll in the "research track" of the MEng program. That is, you do 7 credits of thesis research per semester (other MEng students do a total of 8 credits of project for the entire year). If you can find an advisor to fund you during the year, then you may ask your advisor to sponsor you for an internal change of status which switches you over to the PhD program right after you get your degree.
  8. Hello all, just registered. Still waiting for that (rejection) email from Stanford... EDIT: Argh nvm. Rejected. Michigan here I come...??? (still waiting for Illinois >_>)
