  1. I don't know much about the job market for international students but in terms of degrees you could always get a dual MBA/MPA degree. Hope that helps.
  2. I think the key is to say WHY you didn't get above a 3.0 and to explain EXACTLY why you want to get into a program. I would apply to one reach, just because, and a ton of schools you think you are "safe" for. Also, I would get more job experience.
  3. I'm interested in food security issues and humanitarian aid to displaced populations.
  4. I concur with Richmonder, I would apply to one program instead of both. Also, I would suggest taking the GRE again and try to get the Q to at least 700.
  5. I think that it is great that you have decided what you want to do. Some of us take a little bit of time for these things. I think the thing that you are missing is work experience. I know that, at least from what I've heard, is that Columbia likes work experience. It seems that you would need a couple of years of work experience. Also, a lot of grad schools allows space for you to comment on why you didn't perform as well academically -- that is really important. You said that you were majoring in political science -- I know that MPP programs depend a LOT on quantitative experience, I would suggest, if you can, minoring in economics. Good Luck!
  6. Previous Schools (Name, type, or tier): Stanford (undergraduate) Previous Degrees and GPA's: BA in Anthropology 3.4 GRE Scores (Verbal/Quantitative/Analytical Writing): 420 V/ 720 Q/5.0 -- get sick midway through the test, in the verbal section Previous Work Experience (Years, Type): 5 years -- non-for-profit and research Math/Econ Background: No Econ experience as an undergraduate -- took 3 econ courses as a continuing education student. Foreign Language Background: French Intended Field of Study in Grad School: Human Rights Long Term Professional Goals: Food security adviser for humanitarian missions Schools Applied to & Results: Columbia -- got in Ultimate Decision & Why: Columbia -- only school I applied to. Took courses as continuing education student and loved them.
  7. Got In!! E-mail wasn't sent, just checked website. Being part of the last 20% really sucked and I am so grateful for this website because I had people in my situation who could relate.
