  1. I am really, really sorry -my mistake, the link i posted *does not work* - GregSamsa 's does. I must've confused these two when i was looking through multiple tabs. I found my new status here :https://my.newschool.edu/cp/home/displaylogin " Congratulations on your acceptance and we look forward to seeing you at The New School. From this tab you can: pay your tuition deposit online, check your financial aid status, and access forms for international students." I cannot decide yet -- i wrote to ask about details but haven't heard back from them(financial aid status is still unavailable) - but i don't think i will be going unless they are really, really generous (very unlikely, considering its a masters). I will let you guys know as soon as i know. @GregSamsa @gracesloan Best of luck guys!
  2. You should be able to check your status by now. Look up your emails and find the one titled " application acknowledgement" from them. Use the student Id they've enclosed, use it to look up NetID and you should find your admission result.( PIN no. is your date of birth mmddyy.) The email looks like this, " To check the status of your application and see which credentials have been received and which may still be outstanding, please visit the following web page: http://www.newschool.edu/Alvin/appstatus.htm To log in, enter your student ID number ******* as your login ID and follow instructions for entering your PIN. You can log in anytime to check the status of your application. "
  3. @Stelle Thanks! Good to know even if its not exactly good news. Fyi i won't be attending their reception next week, - i am far out of America. Fingers crossed....and best of luck to you too! @GregSamsa I am mentally sending you a big hug from here, - i am not good at words but- here is a big hug and I hope you get better offers from other programs, i really do- you didn't just apply for just this one right? Thanks again and good night everyone. *kisses*
  4. Who else got this email? The New School for Social Research Admitted Student Reception Thursday, March 29, 2012 • 6:00-8:00 p.m. The weird thing is, I have not heard anything from them prior to this - nothing, not an interview, not an email, not a status update, not an offer -- and then this?! ( or is that the local post office is messing with me- they have returned my stuff to senders before just because they do not read english. yes. no warning. and with a nasty attitude. ) Is this a yes from them or an interview or what? Anyone?
  5. I haven't myself seen many adaptations but it sounds like a fun topic. Worst and best? What have you seen recently? Any recommendations? I normally stick to films with safe casting but also dodge when the book is too big or too dear. Here I go first... Worst: Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter or Daniel Craig as Bond (not that Craig is bad but he's nothing like Bond). Best: I've always had a crush on J-L Trintignant & Ralph Fiennes so that would be a tie between "Conformist" and "The Constant Gardner". Have a good day everyone. h.
  6. What have you enjoyed? Well I was gonna suggest *all* of Shakespeare but if Moby Dick to you is too old... Philip Roth would be my safe guess.
  7. For whatever reason I think of Alanis Morissette when heard you mention PJ Harvey. Some of her songs are soooo good, but Morissette could be too bohemian sometimes. (p.s. Anyone heard of her brother's chanting? ) Speaking of, do we have musicians similar to Tom Lehrer these days? I was just going though "An Evening Wasted with TL" this morning. Such a charming fellow.
  8. Let's avoid obvious names like Dylan, Gershwin, etc. Who do you think in today's music business, alive and working, can write great lyrics? For me Tom Waits and Sam Phillips are 2 writers with most steady quality performance. Who did I forget?
  9. I had a great time with this film! Not happy at all with the ending though. But then again I didn't get why the flower girl should be in Midnight in Paris in the first place...(I rather disliked the ending of "500 days of summer" for the same reason.) Too soft perhaps?
  10. hugs* thank you very much @bfat! I am feeling more positive now(and more worried that i will not get in -- sounds like a tough competition ) By the way, could you get people not on their list to mentor you? I know it's greedy to ask but that would be awesome.
  11. Thanks to all! Just wondering if it was another false alert. It's always good to have a response. @ Grunty DaGnome Yeah I picked 2 non-traditional programs among others(there is also New School on my final 10 list. )The Gallatin was a bit of a last-minute decision (I wasn't in time for their comp. lit. and I was fascinated by the idea that you get to work with lit, philosophy, psychology, cinema and all) but lets hope it's not a cash cow! @pomo Thanks for the note! FYI i emailed my writing sample plus an inquiry and didn't hear from them either, but there is this strange email today that really didn't say anything... Hopefully one of these programs accept me. I wish to continue to Ph.D but there's always pressure from family -- women should get married before 28 and have kids before 30 and that a five-yearish commitment is not a good idea and so on. Crusty conservative values I know , but they love me enough to support my application for Masters and agreed to see it from there! Greetings from China, Good night and sweet dreams everyone. h.
  12. Hi, I just got an email from NYU Gallatin. Thought it was definitely a rejection when i read "Thank you" but it didn't sound like a standard one. Did they send a official announcement to everyone who applied that they have started reviewing? What was this exactly? Anyone else? "Thank you for your interest in the M.A. Program of the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University. Gallatin students design a unique concentration that draws on diverse disciplines, focusing on questions, themes and goals that they formulate in consultation with their advisers. Students in the M.A. program take courses at Gallatin and in the various NYU schools. We are in the process of creating a publication with detailed information about how various students and alumni created their Gallatin concentrations and we will be happy to send you a copy when it becomes available. In the meantime, please visit our Web site, where you can access student profiles and thebulletin (also available by clicking on the image to the right). I invite you to attend a Graduate Information Session to learn more about Gallatin and to explore the possibilities of an individualized and interdisciplinary education. Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions." Hopefully this is just a false alert... Thanks! regards, h.
  13. 2+ hours wandering in the streets feeling fictional plus lots of ebook forum lurking. Probably will try some of the movies on all-time greatest list too. To be honest I've only finished 1 Fellini and 1 Bergman so far. Shame I know, I know. I am clueless when others talk about the classics.
