  1. Hi! I'd love to know about Brooklyn College - I just got accepted to their grad program, and have to decide between them and Hunter. Many thanks!
  2. I've got an interview at Brooklyn College tomorrow, and it's supposed to be very windy out. I'm thinking of wearing a turtleneck in place of a button-down blouse with my wool pants and blazer ensemble. Does that sound unacceptably casual?
  3. Thanks for your reply! It helps to know not to mention waiting for other schools (although, as you pointed out, they probably realize that).
  4. Re Hunter College - Graduate Admissions told me this morning that "official" notification will come from their office, and that won't be for a "few weeks" (I got an email from the clinic director yesterday saying I'd been accepted, and that all accepted applicants would be notified by the graduate admissions office). The clinic director didn't include any info about deadlines for acceptance, though - and Graduate Admissions didn't have that info either, or at least the young woman who spoke to me didn't. I'm happy about being accepted at Hunter, but I really liked the professors I met at Lehman, and they (Lehman) won't be notifying until the first week of April. Any ideas of how to handle this?
  5. Hi everyone - I've posted this in "Decisions", but it occurred to me that this thread might be a better place for my question. Does anyone know the deadline for accepting an offer from Hunter College? I got an email from the clinic director saying that I'd been accepted (and I'm very relieved and grateful to have one acceptance!). However, he didn't specify a deadline by which accepted students should respond, only asking whether we planned on attending an orientation session. He did say that we would be getting an email from Graduate Admissions. I haven't gotten that email yet, so I called the Admissions office this morning, and was told that my acceptance wouldn't be official until I'd heard from them, and that wouldn't be for another few weeks. They weren't able to give me any info about deadlines. Getting back to my question, I interviewed at Lehman last week and they said that they would send their decisions by the end of the first week of April. I'm happy about Hunter, but I'd like to hear from Lehman before I confirm - in the meantime, I'd like to get back to the professor who emailed me in a timely manner. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I should handle this - should I just ask the professor about the deadline for acceptance? Sorry to sound so clueless. I'm probably making this more complicated than it is, but I'd like to avoid making any missteps, like offending a professor before I've even started school! Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!
  6. Update to this - I just spoke to the Graduate Admissions office at Hunter, and I was told that my acceptance is still "unofficial" - it becomes official only when Graduate Admissions contacts me, which the young woman said would be in a few weeks' time. She wasn't able to give me any info about the deadline for acceptance. Any ideas? Thanks!
  7. I received an email that I've been accepted into Hunter's COMSC program - it was from the clinic director, and he said that I would soon be getting notification from the Graduate Admissions Office as well, if I haven't already. I haven't heard from them yet, and my question is this: The email mentioned an orientation event for new students, but not the deadline by which I have to accept or decline their offer of admission (I know it's usually April 15th, but I don't want to assume). I'm still waiting to hear from Lehman College - when I interviewed there, they said that they'd send out their decisions by the end of the first week of April. What's the protocol for a situation like this - should I email the professor directly and explain the situation, or should I go through Graduate Admissions? I'm totally thrilled and grateful to have one acceptance, but I am interested in Lehman, so any advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  8. I don't find it creepy, and I'm an American. And everyone was cc'd on the original email, so it's not as if you got their email addresses by some nefarious means. I wouldn't stress about it.
  9. Hello everyone - I've been invited for interviews at Mercy and Lehman Colleges in the next couple of weeks (for their Speech-Language Pathology/Communication Disorders programs). Does anyone know anything about the interview process at these schools? I know that Lehman asks you to give a spontaneous writing sample in addition to the personal interview. Any ideas as to what sort of questions they ask? I'm a bit nervous, as I haven't had to interview for a number of years, and they're not exactly my strong suit, so any input is greatly appreciated! Many thanks!
  10. Hi! I took USU's online program, and I would definitely recommend it. The glasses cover pre-requisite subjects for most grad programs, and the professors and TAs are quite accessible and helpful (and willing to write recommendations for grad school applications). The courses are well-organized, which is a must for an online program to work well. And they are flexible about how long you can take to complete the program - you can take as many or as few courses as you think you can handle in a semester. It's a 2nd Bachelor's program, but they also have a non-degree option if you just need some leveling courses. Some courses have assignments that require you to do things like a phonological assessment of a young child, interview speech and hearing professionals, observe SLPs or audiologists at work, and do oral-peripheral exams on people; you'll need to arrange these yourself as you won't physically be on a campus with its own speech and hearing clinic. Also, the advisor for the Online 2nd Bachelor's Program at USU is wonderful - very courteous, helpful and prompt about responding to emails. I didn't have an undergrad background in speech, either - and my undergrad major was art history, so I'd say you're all right with psychology! I've applied to five colleges for grad school, and so far I have an interview scheduled with one of them. Good luck!
  11. Thanks so much for your reply! I'm very grateful for the distance learning option for post-bac, but until I found this site I didn't have any info on the outcomes of such programs. Good to know about the level of rigor and faculty recommendations.
  12. Does anyone have any thoughts about prerequisite courses for speech pathology via distance learning? My UG degree was in a completely different field, and I've been out of college for a very long time. I'm enrolled in online courses in speech and hearing due to location, and I'm worried about whether grad schools will view my applications unfavorably because I did my prereqs online rather than in person. Second question - I'm taking the courses through a state university (Ohio), and as they only offer the prereqs during the summer I'm looking into places where I can continue the process in the fall. Does anyone know anything about about Utah State's online prereq program? I'd love to hear from anyone who has any thoughts or similar issues - the whole process is kind of intimidating, and I'm freaking myself out a little. Thanks!
