  1. Applied to Western Michigan and Viterbo University. Accepted at Viterbo for Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling and starting this fall. I would encourage others to apply at Western Michigan - I did not finish my application because I decided to stay closer to home. Now to decide on Psy. D. programs...
  2. I'm just beginning my search for different master's programs for counseling psychology or mental health counseling. I've taken a few prerequisites (abnormal psych and intro to psych/general psych) and completed my bachelor's degree in Spanish. I wasn't a psych major, so it's a good thing I'm not going for my PhD in Psychology. I'm not really into the research side of thing - I'm going purely for a Psy.D. I would, however, like to try to get a full ride scholarship somewhere as I have a lot of teaching experience in various areas. With this in mind: Does anyone have any schools in mind that shine for a Psy.D. degree/M.A. in Counseling Psychology or Mental Health Counseling in the midwest? I haven't taken the GRE yet so I would prefer schools that don't require it. I AM, however, planning on taking the MAT soon. I have all my materials submitted to Viterbo University so far, the school I was planning on attending originally, until I found out that full ride scholarships are actually an option for master's programs in psychology. I'm also considering Western Michigan University and the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. Thanks, everyone! Good luck! --Julia
  3. Hey - I just wanted to say that...I was an ETA applicant to Costa Rica, and I was not recommended. I feel for you guys with the rejections. However - this is exactly why I didn't freak out. If it happens, it happens. If not...I will find some other way there. I have a chance to start a great job here and an awesome new business. So I'm finding everything happens for a reason - and if I really want to, I can go back and apply again. Congratulations to all of you who made it to the second round! However, I don't feel sorry for the waiting period you'll get...ouch...lol
  4. lkahmil, I agree with your sentiments somewhat, but was it really the FPA's responsibility to tell the students early when the rest of us haven't gotten notification? No. They probably had several students nagging at them and just gave in. So I am going to be patient and wait.
  5. lkahmil, I am really tempted to e-mail my FPA and ask - but really, I just feel like a begging child who is pulling at the pants of an adult saying "WHEN ARE WE GOING, WHEN ARE WE GOING?!" Patience is a virtue. If we can't wait this long, how are we going to make it through the next few months if we DO get a recommendation? I mean, really.
  6. Okay, I'm going to have to agree with msafiri and say that this board is getting a little neurotic. I applied too and I think it is really just...personality differences. Whatever happens, happens. If you don't have a back-up plan yet, you will find one. Everything happens for a reason, and yes, being proactive helps, but if we don't get it, raise money to go to the country yourself...apply directly through a university there. Sure, it'd be nice having the grant but if you really want something, go for it. You'll get it. It's the Law of Attraction. Take a deep breath, everyone, and EAT THE COOKIE.
  7. Are you serious? That sounds like something that would happen because of another country's decision-making process...but how could they possibly not tell him anything for months? Did he contact IIE at all? If that happens to me I'm going to freak.
  8. Oh gosh. I haven't posted in a while - but I am an ETA to Costa Rica, and last year they gave out two grants for Costa Rica...ETA grants. I really hope we find out something soon. As far as Plan B - I will return to Costa Rica nonetheless. I studied there for six months and like the other user who posted about having to do the application in a week (I think I had a little over a month), that made everything all the more stressful. I have no special qualifications other than the fact I speak Spanish and have a TEFL Certificate. I hope it helps me rather than hurts me that I've been to Costa Rica already...but I just don't know anymore.
  9. Hi all - I applied as an ETA to Costa Rica...very nervous. We did not do campus interviews at my school and my campus deadline was October 10th - very nerve-wracking because of one my references didn't submit until late at night on the day of the deadline! Any other ETAs to Latin America? I saw someone was applying for Colombia I just want it to be January!
