  1. I applied only based on fit with someone or the overall program. So far, I've only gotten into UConn and Louisville. Rejected from UCSB and Indiana. Still have a few to hear from, and certainly rejected from a whole bunch. My topic is really specific, so even if a program had had previous students do similar research or someone who does related things, I can see that I might not be the best candidate for most of the programs.

  2. Yes, I applied, but haven't heard. A little odd considering they sent some rejections out already. I'm assuming rejection from them, which is a bummer, it's a great program! Do you have any other offers or schools your are waiting on?

  3. Hi everyone. I've been accepted to UConn, and it sounds great- it has great funding and faculty I really want to work with. I was wondering what people have heard about the department as I've noticed there isn't much buzz here about it but similarly ranked programs seem to have more appliciants/threads. I'd love to know what you've heard. Thank you!

  4. DId you get in somehwere sociologyplease as well?

    Perhaps there still is hope.

Yep, I got into UConn. And just as I was resigning myself to another masters program to make myself more competitive. I have an extremely limited sociology background (cross-listed courses and publications only), so there is still hope for you for sure!

  5. I applied to 15 top schools. So far its one waitlist, five rejections, eight pending rejections, and a longshot in Toronto. I thought my statistics were strong enough to be competitive anywhere. I spent a lot of money and put a lot of thought into each application. I can understand not getting all upset about an individual rejection but such an across the board repudiation just has shattered my pride..

Yes, agreed! I applied to 13 schools (1 M.A.) and even thought I went into it extremely realistically- thinking I might not get in anywhere- I still feel really embarrassed to have been rejected/assumed rejected from almost all of my doctorate choices and only have gotten into to a M.A., especially because I already have a M.S. in a related field. I'm trying to have an okay attitude about it and focus on the one acceptance I have, but I do feel the same lack of luster for life you mention. Rejection is really hard, even when you go in understanding the realities of this whole system.

  6. YES! I am currently dying. lol

Maybe tomorrow? I also applied to UMass Amherst and it looks like that could be next week judging from past years, so maybe next week is the big week for us, sleepycat
