  1. 78% yield means 19 people declined their offers of admission. Just out of curiosity, did anyone here turn down WWS? (I'm pretty sure I know two people who went for Harvard MPA/ID.) Also, did the letter say anything about whether anyone was admitted from the waitlist?

According to the letter, this year they had 15 declines and 5 deferrals. Normally it is about 25 declines and 12 deferrals. Nobody was accepted off the wait list, unfortunately

  2. So, did anyone else on the wait list receive the letter? I guess it's nice to bring this to an end on April 22, rather than stretch it out until May 15. But, still, I had been hoping for a miracle. Is anyone planning to reapply?

I also got the email from WWS. Even though it didn't work out this year (78% yield fwiw), I'm more than happy to take my offer and go to Michigan this fall.

  3. Wow, I seem to be in almost the exact same situation. It is going to come down to these two programs for me as well. Like you, I was also at Duke last Friday and will be in Ann Arbor this weekend.

The quant training at Michigan is very appealing, but Duke is certainly no slouch in that department either. I'm really looking forward to seeing Michigan, and even though I got a slightly better funding package from UMich, Duke made a very strong case last Friday.

  4. I'm also giving the Ford School very serious consideration. Its strength in domestic policy aligns very well with what I'm interested in and what I want to get out of an MPP. I also like the quant emphasis since even though I have some quant background (econ minor), I know I need to develop it further to land the type of jobs in DC that I'm interested in (GAO, CBO, etc).

I'm going to the open house in a couple weeks and really looking forward to it. I've never really been to Michigan before, except for a few layovers at DTW.

Oh, and they also gave me a very healthy financial package. :D

  5. Has anyone received their official packet in the mail from GPPI? I was accepted on 2/23 and still haven't received anything via snail mail. I'm trying to get more info on the open house schedules so I can book travel, but haven't been able to get the admissions office to call me back.

I also haven't received info on financial aid/merit scholarships - looks like some people have been notified already. Not sure if that means all scholarship decisions have been made?

Any info any of you have would be super helpful!

BaristaGirl, I got my official packet via snail mail on Thursday. It contained a flyer with some info about the open house but not a specific itinerary. By the way, I received my scholarship notification via email on March 2.

  6. I'm dealing with exactly the same thing.

    Duke - 3/27

    GW - 3/27 or 3/28

    GPPI - 3/27 or 4/3

    Ford - 4/3 - 4/4

I'm trying to choose either Duke or Michigan to visit because I think GPPI is my default right now. In other words, I'm waiting to see if something at Duke or Michigan makes me want to go there over GPPI.

I'm sort of in the same boat. I'm going to Duke on 3/27 and Ford on 4/3-4/4, but I just recently got a great offer from Humphrey so I'm flying from Detroit to Minneapolis for a quick visit after the Ford open house. That's going to be a long weekend.

  7. No problem. :) What do you think of this Pittsburgh/DC split program? I've been looking up things and it looks pretty interesting. Have you talked to anyone who's actually done it? I can't imagine coming out of that apprenticeship and not being in a good position for a career or applying to PhD programs.

This program looks very compelling. I haven't had a chance to speak with anyone who has gone through it. Unfortunately, I don't think that I'll be able to attend the open house in Pittsburgh (same day as Ford School). I might be able to make it to DC sometime, since I only live about 5 hours away (in W. Virginia).

  8. It is 4/15. That is the universal response date that grad schools in the United States (including Carnegie Mellon) have agreed to. My letter says 4/15 - they must have had a typo early on.

That's what I assumed. Thanks for the quick response, traverler06.

  9. I just called in and they changed the date in my letter to 4/15. I am not sure if it was a typo to begin with or if they are just being incredibly flexible.

My letter said 3/15 too. I've tried to email and call their office to see if it is actually 4/15, but I can't reach them this afternoon. Any thoughts?
