Or anyway, once I figured out that was the case, it seemed that I was definitely wait listed. If I had read the initial e-mail more closely, I would have first logged my acceptance as a wait list, because that's what further correspondence revealed it to effectively be. But maybe they keep another wait list, too, below that one? It seems possible.
-
I think that accepting but wait-listing for monetary support is CUNY's version of the wait list.
-
I was offered funding at CUNY but have declined the offer. Hopefully this helps somebody out! (Possibly the woman who posted on the results search the other day?)
-
No clue, sorry! I just asked for clarification about what I received.
-
Update on the CUNY acceptances that are wait-listed for fellowship, it is indeed the case that this is equivalent to being wait listed for funding.
-
Some schools have gendered wait lists, to ensure good representation in the incoming cohort. Maybe they have reason to believe that this is the case at CUNY?
-
Were you both applicants? If so, congratulations on getting acceptances at the same school!
-
I was accepted but wait listed for funding, and so was someone else. So that could just be what they do instead of wait listing people.
-
That was me. Accepted into the program, top of the waitlist for a fellowship (which I assume means funding). They say they had 230 applications for 10 slots. I literally just got this e-mail, so I think it's entirely possible they're still going out. EDIT: I think "wait list" might have been a better way to post the result, since that's closer to what it feels like -- but I got excited and posted it before I carefully read the whole e-mail!

I agree, that's not a big deal. Seconding what aduh said... don't despair yet!

Honestly, zblaesi, it sounds like your sample has been well-vetted by the kind of scholars many of us would kill to have access to. Are you sure it can't be some other part of your application that is the problem? Do you say anything unorthodox in your statement? I guess your GRE Quant score is low, but it's hard to imagine that being the kind of thing that would shut you out. Edit: at any rate, you aren't getting shut out -- you have two great wait lists, and I'm sure you're still waiting to hear back from some top places. Try to relax!

Facebook discussion thread for women prospectives
Hypatience replied to Hypatience's topic in Philosophy
I think in the interest of it being a safe space, we're going to maintain confidentiality -- or at least, I personally wouldn't want to report the testimony of others here. But I do understand where you are coming from, and it's great to see men who are concerned with climate issues as well. I'm sure you'll be able to pick up a lot from the visits. Also, if you are vocal on these forums about wanting climate information about the schools you're looking at, chances are some people with firsthand information might reach out to you. -
Facebook discussion thread for women prospectives

There are seven of us so far, so you will be in good company. -
Some other women from the forums and I currently have a message thread going on Facebook to share climate information about various schools and more generally help each other out with the decisions process. If you're a woman applicant and interested in having access or participating, please send me a private message and I will include you!
-
OK, women who want in on the FB infoshare thread please message me.
-
It can't hurt to ask them to consider you, BSG. You can always pass it up later for another funded or stronger offer.
-
Another possibility is that maybe some of us could get in touch with each other via PM and get a Facebook message thread going. I know I've heard some climate stuff about various schools that I'd only be willing to share privately, and I'm sure there are women here in the same position. Possibly we can pool our gossip and help each other out!
-
Would the other women in this thread be interested in a new thread where just the women among us are invited to post? I am considering starting one a little later in the decisions process so that we can discuss schools, visits, and shared concerns without wading through pages and pages of frustrating garbage.
-
It's your lucky day, because Mavngoose1 has quoted it in full.
-
Has this thread now devolved into satire or are we all still being entirely serious? Wow, people...
-
A loud, blustery man derailing and dominating a discussion about women in the discipline -- business as usual, I see.
-
And your only application, wow! That must be a great relief! Sincere congratulations, that's wonderful!
-
Yale does usually take a few from their wait list, actually.
-
I think a previous year had a wait list phone call from Harvard logged, so it seems possible.

Primarily mind.
