      I was kidding about there literally being two waitlists (sorry, tone doesn't carry well over the internet,) but what I mean is it definitely seems that way, especially with schools that use "unofficial waitlists." Basically, they wait until others have accepted/denied their offers before they tell you anything. While it's great not to be rejected right off the bat, it's still maddening!!

      You see, the way it works is that there's ANOTHER waitlist that you're on for being told that you're on the waitlist. It's waitlistception.

    I keep bursting into tears at work. I quite literally feel as if I'm an infant. Ugh. Tomorrow's the day I email everyone though. I'm thinking 4pm Eastern so that they have an hour or two to see that I emailed and reply. ... Right? ;)

      It's normal and healthy to cry; you're not an infant, you're an adult who is going through a very difficult process. I hope good news comes soon to dry the tears!

    Rejected everywhere. Now what? Been accepted to two conferences and was interviewed by an international newspaper about my work, but I can't get into a PhD program? This is confusing and embarrassing. I don't know if I will reapply next year, I think it is time to change careers..

      There is plenty of time to get your energy back. It's totally normal to be upset and punch pillows and suffer from these feelings, but it's good to remember that there is some time before you reapply again, and I know you can do it and get over this hurdle!
