  1. I am only applying to one program this Fall. Should I mention in my SOP that they are my top and only choice or does that sound desperate?
  2. Yes, the service allows for the professor to upload a letter once and then you can reuse it for as many schools as you want. I would assume all my recommendation were strong. When I let one of my professors know I didn't get into any schools, she was really surprised because she had also recommended me personally to a possible advisor--but her suggestion was.. to retake the GRE (my scores were only average for the top schools I was applying to) and to focus more on Master's programs than Ph.d programs (or entertain the possibility of moving out of California and UC/CSU system which usually have between 5-10 spots each year in my field). I just don't know if the letters were dated other than mentioning the dates I attended my undergraduate school. If they were then I would ask them to upload the new letter, but the whole point of using the dossier service, as a professor recommended it to me, was so that I could hang on to old letters. (I lost my best recommendation that I received when the professor left the school after I graduated, started becoming a visiting professor at different schools every quarter, and then going abroad. Could never track her down.) Guess I will just have to ask.
  3. I had a similar question. I got rejected from schools this year, but will be applying to different schools next year. I had my professors upload their letters to a dossier service (Interfoilo), so can I just send those letters next year? I doubt I will be doing anything that profound between now and december that would need to be updated. But is it bad form to send an old letter?
  4. I applied to SFSU for WGS too. I applied last years and was rejected, but looking back on my SOP I understand why (I had too vague of an idea what I wanted to study and not much background in WGS except for the beginnings of my senior thesis). I really hope I get in this year though!! I am also from the Bay Area. I have never really had a high opinion of Cal State schools as they have the reputation of being the fallbacks of the UCs. But, when I applied there last year, my Queer Theory professor at Davis really recommended it. Their website states that they make you take some undergraduate courses in WGS if you don't already have a BA in it. I have a minor in Sexuality Studies and my major was interdisciplinary (which I focused around WGS) and I hope that is enough. Let me know how it goes.
  5. Congrats, eaw53!! Who posted the rejection from the program on the survey results?
  6. I don't know. It sounds like an acceptance to me.... or a wait-list, so also the list of people who are accepted or could be accepted if others fall through.
  7. What was it? The HistCon was one of the ones I wish I had applied (along with USC American Studies), but didn't because I feel like you can apply to too many schools (and when I looked into it 2 years ago I got the feeling they had very very little funding). Still, I want to know the response....
  8. Glad to know that I am not the only one! Speaking of which, does anyone have an idea what time departments usually call? I mean at what time should I figure "no calls today, maybe tomorrow"?
  9. Dunkelblauecola- That would be great if we did meet. No word yet, but Davis was where I got my undergraduate degree and I can tell you most of the Professors in the program are really great and Davis is a great (albeit dull) town. My emphasis is also in Gender Studies. Koolherc- Yep, no word yet here either. Let me know if you hear anything. This waiting is really awful.
  10. I mentioned Butler in my Berkeley SOP, but I knew she was leaving so it just mentioned how I became aware of the program because of her.
  11. Is there anyone who would like to do an SOP trade (preferably for UCs and a liberal arts field, but it doesn't really matter) tonight/today? Message me!
  12. I was just wondering if anyone is applying to these programs for the Fall 2012 and how your applications are going. It would be nice to talk to people in the same boat and maybe compare notes. (This also applies to grad students currently in these programs.)
