So I'm considering a spot I was offered at Tucson and have a few questions regarding housing. I don't want to be near a lot of noise and have been looking for 1BR places north of campus. I know the north and east of campus are the safest (single female so that's a big concern of mine!), but how far north and how far east? For example, if i stay south of Glenn St. and directly north of campus, does anyone know if that would keep my bike to campus under 10-15 min? Also, any experience with crime there? Will it be tough to get by on a $14,000 stipend?

i don't think you can ask for the stipend...i think it was just their little extra. it's not much, $1,000, but it sure would help!

i was accepted to a program, offered a ta spot, and a small a moving stipend. i was excited about the offer and even though they didn't offer me a paid campus visit, it was one of my top choices and thought it is worth the money to see the campus, meet the faculty, etc. before making a decision (i have other attractive offers that i am considering). i emailed to see when i could visit to see the campus, etc., however a week has passed and nobody has replied to me....do i email again? give them a call? keep waiting?

could anyone tell me if a car is necessary to live in tucson if attending u of az?

pues digo lista de espera porque no fui escogida en la primera ronda...yo también recibí ese email. sólo espero que la gente que no va a aceptar se lo comunique a davis antes del 15 de abril. si no, no sirve para mí porque ya habré elegido otra universidad. suerte con ucla mama! la crisis está por todas partes, eh?

Bizio, are you kidding me?!? That's not a good sign, that's a GREAT sign! I think I'm getting ulcers waiting to hear something....barely any of Spanish lit programs have sent notifications, and many have said they won't do so until late February. It's so hard to not obsess over this!

acabo de recibir un email de la universidad de arizona...dice que el "review of evaluations" va a empezar la segunda semana de febrero...así hay que esperar

pues varios de mis profesores, 2 de los cuales enseñan en la U of M donde hice el bachillerato, me dijeron que para los programas de español, el GRE es lo que menos importa de hecho, uno de ellos está ahora mismo revisando las solitudes y fue él quien me dijo que apenas lo miran. tampoco me fue bien en la sección de escritura del GRE, pero no lo considero ser una prueba válida de mis habilidades. según tengo entendido valen más los statements y writing sample. así no te preocupes del GRE

jo! bueno, es mejor saber que no en cuanto a la carta. alguien solicitó a UIC? mi decision status ha cambiado a "referred to college for review" y no tengo la menor idea de qué quiere decir.

U of I, Chicago "Decision" has changed from a big paragraph about awaiting furhter information to "Referred to college for review." That probably means that they finally just sent my paperwork to the college, even though I submitted it in the end of December. Jan 1st deadline. It's not bad I suppose!

jeje sí, será interesante! no recibí una entrevista pero hablé con un profe de UC Davis porque es amigo de un amigo. me dijo que sólo van a aceptar entre 10 y 12 candidatos. sé que tiene que aceptar cierta cantidad de estudiantes de california también. no creo que me vaya a elegir! qué piensan que nos van a preguntar durante una entrevista????
