  1. HI shockwave, if you have a car,i would suggest you to move wherever you feel comfortable. There are amazing places around College Park, from urban areas to rural areas. Some nice places to look around within 20 min of driving distance: Silver Spring, Bethesda, Laurel, and obviously DC if you can afford it. Greenbelt is also 10 minutes away from the campus. You can check the graduate handbook and in off-campus housing website there is also a document with more information. Finding housing is time consuming, and the area is known for the mold problem. Prices? it will depend on the area, but if you want to live in an apartment/condo with some facilities, rent starts in about 1000. In DC.. multiply by 1,5...2 My 2 cents.. ask me whatever you need. housing is a real issue1!
  2. April, 26th, and no mail was sent. I have already selected another better program, but anyway, I want a response!! As easy as sending an e-mail.. Baer, maybe your point is logic for a high-ranked university (CMU-UBC-MIT)..., but a low-ranked program like UCI-which in many cases is the "safe" application- should be faster and provide better feedback. If you are accepted in a better program, you will not be likely to change your mind if the acceptance is sent in later april.. Therefore, good students will not be likely to accept the late offer.. just my thoughts-- Good luck to everyone. Big mistake to change Gatech with UCI.. at least I would have received better feedback.
  3. I'll be starting UMD graduate school next fall and now I'm trying to find a suitable apartment or studio just for me. The "best" places are already occupied, while many others tell you to call again in june... I will need some tips with the furnishing, as I do not want to buy all the stuff to then leave the place! And the furnished "decent" apartments are already occupied. Not to mention that most of the apartments I have picked are located in Hyattsville.. And the prices are no lower than 1,400$!! 1500 summarizing all.. Now I see that without a GA will be impossible.. Any advise? I do not want to move more than 45min walk Another question, is it possible to go from hyattsville to the campus by walk? google says it takes up to 45min, but maybe there is no sidewalk, or the streets are quite unsafe for women, Thanks!
  4. 10 applications! amazing I've applied too to UC Irvine, Donald Bren School of Computing, but haven't received any confirmation yet. The tracker was down and I wonder why they are so late. Does anybody know about UC Irvine Computing and informatics department? I am afraid it is ranked #30, but looking at the published papers, the labs and the proximity to Silicon Valley I would doubt about the ranks. Any Donald Bren's student? Thanks again!
  5. Hi Lindsay. I have applied to another ischool program and I am in the same issue. As an international student I am not eligible for financial aid, so the program is virtually impossible to pay. Could you finally get a GA?
