Harvard PhD . . . could you be more specific? Religious Studies? NELC?

I too had an interview on the 26th; I've heard nothing.

Shit. I'm sorry, comrade.

I honestly have no clue. They seem to be one of the later notifications, that's all I know.

It wasn't me, but I heard a rumor it was for cuneiform. I have no clue about HB/NWS.

Well said.

Congrats to anyone whoHAS presented at the annual meeting—I wasn't trying to discourage anyone, nor say that one *shouldn't.* That said, I still think regional meetings are probably the more appropriate venue for master's students—with few exceptions (and there most certainly are exceptions) All that said, I imagine the discipline is determinative too. *Most* master's students in HB simply don't have the language proficiency to interact with enough cognate literature (and, for English speakers, non-english secondary sources) to treat a topic completely. If you've got the chops, by all means, do it. I don't.

The SBL annual meeting *generally* doesn't accept papers from MA/MDiv students; and it often requires full drafts of papers from PhD students and first-time presenters, too. Regional meetings are much more lenient. I would say that there will be many more MA/MDiv students who get accepted into top-tier PhD programs than were there MA/MDiv students who presented in Chicago.

Re: UT Austin acceptances/rejections, what are your subfields? And for that matter, is anyone claiming the Hopkins interview? subfield?

I'm just hoping I can restock my liquor cabinet before my next rejection comes through. I'm down to less than one bottle of Bourbon.

This is what I heard.

That makes . . . a lot of us, I think.

My advisor's advice for my writing sample, "Cite good sources—they're not gong to read it. They just want to make sure you're interacting with the right people and can string together two sentences." ** Perhaps a bit over-stated, but probably truer than I'd like to think. ** This referring to the WS in general, not to a particular program or school.

Congrats! I have a friend in that program right now—Hutton and Troxel are top-notch and doing really good things. If you want, I can give you his email address if you have any questions.

For the benefit of the thread, I got a U Mich (NES) interview email on the 22nd. Interviews will be held on Saturday via Skype. Again, my sub-field is Hebrew Bible / Ancient Israel. So far as I can tell, I'm the only one that has recorded an interview email in the results database. Perhaps this was a faux-pas? Whatevs. Best of luck to anyone else who got one.
