  1. I applied to five schools my first time for PhD programs and got into one masters program. I turned that program down and reapplied a second time to the same five schools and one additional school. I got the exact same results with exception of one additional admit to a masters program. I still really want to do a PhD program and will be reapply with a masters this time. My advice unless you do some amazing research in the next year, its unlikely that your results from reapplying will be very different. You will most likely be able to attend your second choice school next year if you just ask to defer admission for one year.
  2. Is it possible to go snow shoeing in Ann Arbor or nearby?
  3. As an out of state resident U Mich is very pricey so If I don't get funding I want to get out of there as quickly as possible.
  4. Can the MSEE program at U Mich be completed in one year if I did my undergraduate degree in engineering elsewhere?
  5. I got turned down for funding when I applied last year. Before I reapplied this year I told myself that I would go even without funding. This year when I reapplied, and I got the exact same results. I'm going to pay the $50K and try not to be too bitter that other people are getting a better deal.
  6. I'm in the same boat. I applied to the U Mich PhD and only got the MS. I figure that I might as well get a MS and reapply. Worst case scenario I leave with a MS and get a good job.
  7. I have been working at a large engineering firm for 3 years and have been promoted to the level where I am compensated as if I had a masters. I don't really enjoy my work, I want to get involved in design but lack course work or experience so I'm suck running tests. Does it make sense to leave a good paying job at this time to go for a masters in EE that I hope will allow me to do work I'm more excited about?
  8. I really wanted to start a MS/PhD program this fall. This is my second time applying and I have gotten rejected from every PhD program that I applied to. I was accepted into Cornell's MEng program and U Mich MSEE program without funding. If I still want to get a PhD which program is a better option?
