  1. Your thoughts? I do know what matters the most is the research but I am looking at other factors as well (such as what is better for a future career in academics and/or industry). Thanks!

  3. Hello all, The application asks about professors of interest or if anything is not chosen the adcomm committee would take care of assigning the app to a professor. Would it increase my chances if I leave it blank? I don't want to end up chosing profs on hiatus or not taking in any students. Thanks!
  4. I already applied for PhD for Fall 2012.. Does it make a difference if I TA next term? I am doing my master's and applying to the same university, so they would definitely know of this
  5. I will have great recommendation letters from my previous senior manager and a current professor. I have a choice between a very medioce recommendation letter from my research professor or a stunning recommendation letter from an ex-coworker (senior engineer who hired me). What is better to have as my 3rd recommendation? Thanks
  6. Update everyone.. I called them up and mentioned that I am doing my master's in CS and asked if the subject test is required, she said no. Only the general GRE test is required. I asked what should I put down as a reason for not taking the test she hinted it's not important what I put down.. So I am going with "Not taking the test"
  7. Plus my background/qualifications are enough to show that I know CS material. Maybe I will call them on Monday.
  8. I had the same question as well. They said you will have to give a reason on the application on why you are not taking the test, and the website mentions that a valid reason is that the exam is not offered in some countries. Honestly, I am not willing to take the exam.
  9. I am applying to few IVY league schools (HYP and col.) along with Stanford. My objective is to obtain a PhD, my research area can fall under CS or CE. I received a full scholarship for my potential PhD and I need to get into one of the schools I am applying to. My background is a dual major in CE and CS from a top 10 engineering school, 3 years as a software engineer, and I am currently doing my master's in CS at a top 20 school.. My question is whether it is easier to get into CS or CE at those schools.. Thanks
