  2. @sympatico, what article did you read?
  3. @TheStranger, Thanks for posting! The python is a great metaphor. I guess the 1 artist is Kehinde Wiley. Still, the next 2 groupings of 3, followed by the following group of 6 comprises about 1/2 of the class. And that 50% one might describe as "successful" to "moderately successful." This ratio seems to hold true for the other couple of schools at the top of the heap. Though it doesn't seem like much, 50% is a huge proportion to fall into those categories compared to most schools. So I suppose the shape is probably different as you move down the hierarchy of schools -- with the "mouth" becoming smaller and the mid section getting fatter, and on down to schools where there's a tiny tiny mouth and a fat tail.
  4. @TheStrange, any chance you could scan and post?
  5. the main disadvantage is that the dual degree programs are not found at the best schools. so, you're better off to get those degrees from separate schools if you feel strongly about getting both degrees. it will also cost you more b/c you are paying more tuition. if you want to focus on studio work go for your MFA -- no question. there's no reason why you can't continue to research and write, particularly if you go to a school that has solid academics that you can take as electives and/or sit in on.
