  1. Anyone else in Berkeley terror?
  2. Bounced out of Duke. Oh well.
  3. Does anyone have any data on the selectivity at U Mich? I can't track down any reliable info on their acceptance rate.
  4. Hi Traveler, Intro economics courses can't hurt you, but I got into several comparative poli sci phd programs with a B in my introductory econ course. I was able to make up for it by good grades in some advanced math courses and a high score on the GRE quant, though. If you struggle with quantitative analysis and that's why your econ class is challenging you, that's something you definitely want to work on, or you'll want to apply to departments that have more qualitative than quantitative or formal comparative groups. I doubt pass/failing the class would hurt you - it also depends on what year you're in as an undergraduate.
  5. I didn't apply to Pittsburgh, but given the existing pattern with UCLA, Duke, and U Michigan I'd say it's entirely possible they're just sending out notifications a few at a time for some unknown reason. I wouldn't freak out yet!
  6. Didn't know if anyone had seen this - it's a recent paper from princeton on poli sci grad program rankings (develops a new ranking methodology based on placement). Briefly, and not surprisingly: 1. Harvard 2. Stanford 3. Michigan 4. Rochester (yeah, coach!) 5. Chicago 6. Berkeley 7. Duke 8. UCLA 9. Northwestern 10. UCSD 11. MIT 12. Yale 13. Princeton 14. Cornell 15. Columbia http://www.princeton.edu/~bschmidt/Papers/Schmidt-Chingos%20Rankings%20Paper.pdf
  7. Was it Thies? And where on ApplyYourself is the letter? I logged in but I can't see anything new.
  8. Tajikistan is awesome - were you just in Dushanbe, or did you get into the countryside at all? Also thanks for the heads up on Duke! Edit: Secret Squirrel - looks like you were right on the money re: who we'd hear from this week. Maybe you can make some extra cash while in grad school moonlighting as a psychic? And huge congratulations to the Berkeley acceptance - fingers crossed for all the rest of us!
  9. Awesome! Istanbul is super fun. Which 'stans? I'm envious, I would love to be traveling right now!
  10. Not I. I'm comparative political economy.
  11. Thank you!!! Hopefully you'll post some good news soon, too!
  12. Yessssss! Congrats to all the other people with acceptances
  13. holy shit - got into u mich ann arbor w full funding!
  14. Oh my god!!!! I just got into UCLA too - but I've been waitlisted for a fellowship package. So mixed news, but hooray!!!!
  15. Congratulations!!!!! What's your subfield?
  16. Thanks for the info. Man, everything's going haywire this year! Duke acceptances spread out over 3 days, UCLA over 4, and no acceptances to Michigan posted before all the rejections. And of course Stanford lagging behind.
  17. Has anyone heard of someone being accepted to U Mich this year? I can't imagine they're sending out rejections before sending out acceptances, but so far there are no acceptances posted, tons of rejections, and then there are a couple of us who haven't heard anything. I just saw a few more rejections go up - did people just get those emails now, or were they sent around 11am like an earlier poster on the results survey mentioned?
  18. My stats are pretty high - I wouldn't draw any conclusions about that just yet.
  19. I applied to U Mich but wasn't part of the wave of rejections. I haven't had any communication from them yet, actually. Any ideas what that might mean? So far I haven't heard jack from UCLA, Duke, or U Mich. I'm starting to wonder if I hallucinated submitting my applications... Edit: for those rejected from U Mich - does it show your new app status on your UM Friend account page?
  20. Congratulations!!! And to all the other acceptances.
  21. No information from UCLA or Duke yet. Please, admission committee gods, send me a sign! Edit: also, balthasar, glad to see someone else is chainsmoking.
  22. if the emails were sent out at different times (separated by a few hours each) they could be sending out more tmrw. Unlikely, though. But last year, as has been posted, there were 3 acceptances sent out after all the rejections. Tomorrow will likely be the wave of rejections. Who knows, though... Certainly I don't.
  23. Oh, duke. Sigh. If anyone who was accepted feels like sharing what time they received the email, perhaps we could determine whether they all went out at once or are trickling out?
  24. Anyone who applied to Stanford have any idea what's going on there? It wasn't one of my apps, but I've been surprised by the conspicuous absence of info from them.
  25. Wow. Here we go, then. Also, am I missing something re: why my posts have been getting downvoted over the past few days? If I'm unknowingly really pissing you off, please PM me so I can stop doing whatever it is I'm doing. I wouldn't have brought it up, but if I'm upsetting one or more people that consistently, please tell me how and I will mend my ways.
