  1. Nothung--I want to tend to agree, although I'm not convinced there are no more acceptances. I think, as they don't do a waitlist, they might stagger their acceptances as initial acceptees turn down offers until all spots are filled. Looking at their results posting from last year, seems to follow a similar pattern--early Feb, a few acceptances. Nothing for a few weeks, then a bunch of reject/MAPH admits, then a bunch of general rejections, with a couple of PhD acceptances scattered in. So perhaps it's not all over yet...
  2. Gatsby, thank you so much for bringing some actual data to the conversation! This is much more alleviating than the typical hypothesizing and worrying that I know I am guilty of as well. I commented last night on UChicago's notification pattern from last year, trying to make sense of those four notifications, but it got lost a few pages ago in a flame war... I'll be sure to update here if I learn anything else as well! Good to know the administrators are helpful and receptive to questions. People who are worrying about other schools should give this approach a try as well
  3. Does anybody have insight on the "Other" comment posted to the results list today for UChicago English? The poster asked how people had already heard from UChicago English, as this person asked the departmental rep who told him/her that results are simulataneous and hadn't been posted yet. This was the impression I was also under. Furthermore, Chicago stated that no admissions decisions would be revealed directly through email, as this is a potential privacy issue, but rather everybody would be emailed to check their online application for their decision. Perhaps these were "informal" acceptances from professors previously contacted by applicants, but don't represent the full panel of 2014 acceptances. Thoughts? FWIW: looking through the results tab from last year, it seems as though UChicago released several acceptances early in February (~three appeared on the list), and then extended further offers all the way through March (two additional PhD acceptances appeared on the thread in that time, sprinkled among the slough of rejections). Hard to extrapolate where the other ~20 or so acceptances were garnered. Damn the non-obsessive people who don't lurk around forums and get insanely high blood pressure during application seasons...
  4. Has anybody looked into the price of simply boxing things up and sending them via FedEx (barring any large items of furniture that can't be disassembled) relative to these other moving options?
  5. Got it! Does anybody here know the details regarding TAships while on the fellowship? I thought I remembered reading that NSF changed their policy to explicitly forbid TAing while being supported, but now I can't find where I read this and am wondering if I'm just cracked out from reading so many web pages through this whole experience.... edit: I browsed through the administrative guide and found a couple of tidbits... any thoughts? http://www.nsf.gov/p...31/nsf11031.pdf At one point, it mentions the ability of a fellow to go on "Reserve Status" to take advantage of teaching assistantships, interships, research assistantships, etc. At another point, it states, "However, because it is generally accepted that teaching or similar activity constitutes a valuable part of the education and training of many graduate students, a Fellow may undertake a reasonable amount of such activities, without NSF approval. . . . Compensation for such activities is permitted based on the affiliated institution’s policies and the general employment policies outlined in this document."
  6. Email invite this morning for UChicago Molecular Biosciences March 1-3.
  7. I got invited to interview at UCSF Tetrad yesterday! UW MCB only seems to have sent out a wave of rejections so far--is that normal to see a bunch of rejections before anybody else pops up with interview offers?
