  1. Hey Guys, I've applied to Columbia University Graduate Journalism Program twice before so I had no intention of applying again, but they called me the day before the application was due and asked me to update my application. As you all know, it's not everyday you get a call from Columbia and not every applicant gets a chance to apply again so I took a leap of faith and here I am. The hardest part by far was writing the essays with a twenty four hour deadline. So here I am waiting it out again with one more hurdle to face: the writing test. Since I work in a news gathering position, I am not worried about the news content part. Plus, it's my favorite time of year where all the "Year in Review" articles are coming out so I'm using that to refresh my memory (and spelling) on what I've covered. What I'm worried about is the other parts of the test such as grammar (since I don't write web copy everyday), history and geography. Do you guys have any tips on how to brush up on this? Thanks in advance!
  2. What exactly do you want to do now? I don't get that from your post. When I get to your status in life, I want to teach at a college. Through my current job, I learned that I'm really good at mentoring and teaching others. I always get stuck mentoring the interns who go on to become producers at the station, which at this point frustrates me to no end. However, after being an online reporter for 5 to 10 years, I'd love to do that at a college, helping people with their resumes and helping them get the skills they need for careers in journalism. That's why I say you should really think about what you want to do, because going back to school might not necessarily help you.
