  1. I mean you are already in so if they say no and you start this fall then what does it really matter right? I deferred acceptance for next year because my husband is going to be in a different state and I wanted to stay with him. I think the reasons for deferral are things like family obligations or health related. But I also think it depends on the school. My school didn't even meet the chair of the department just emailed me back and said no problem.
  2. All of these people getting accepted off of waitlists is depressing me. Anyone else still waiting to hear? I called NYU and they said "one to two weeks". I thought I would have everything figured out by now.
  3. Got an email from GW asking me if I wanted to remain on the waitlist. I'm guessing the waitlist is large and that not many people (if any) will actually get accepted off the waitlist...
  4. I emailed NYU letting them know I am very interested in staying on the waitlist. I never heard back but I assume that they just get so many emails (it was to the general graduate admissions account) that it's not a big deal. In other news, I contacted St. John's about taking pre-reqs there. Anyone know anything about the program? I am in a bit of a predicament as I really want to stay in NYC or thereabouts but have been accepted into a two year program in Ohio that wouldn't even require me to take pre-reqs. I was pre-med so I guess they figure I can just go right into grad school and manage? Anyone have any advice?
  5. Yay! You rock! Congrats on all the acceptances by the way. Impressive schools!!
  6. Well, got rejected from Columbia. I was holding out hope but alas it is not meant to be. I am waitlisted at NYU so maybe there's still a chance my husband and I won't have to live apart for two years....
  7. I guess it depends on how tight money is. If you have to take out loans and pay for everything yourself than I would do the free ride. It's not like after you graduate you are going to be making a ton of money and will be able to pay off the loans quickly. Are you married or engaged? Is your significant other tied to a certain city or area of the country? These are things that would also factor in to the decision making process. Good Luck! It looks like you have some great options no matter what!
  8. Well I've been trying to hold out hope for Columbia. Yesterday was a really big day in my family (four pretty amazing things happened within like 20 hours) and I was hoping to top the day off with an acceptance, but alas, this did not happen. I am obsessively logging into the application and next step websites to see if a decision is there. I think I need an intervention.
  9. That stinks! I hope you get accepted soon! Try to stay positive!!
  10. Now I am obsessively checking the website. UGH.
  11. Mine still says complete. There is also another way to check. If you go to the teacher's college page and search for "Next Step" you can log in with the same information as your application. Don't know where they have the acceptances/rejections posted though.
  12. Off topic but someone posted they got rejected from Columbia Teacher's College this morning. I tried to ask if the decision was in the email or if they were told to login to their application or next step page and it was deleted. Just wondering how they found out so if it was you and you are reading this could you let me know! Thanks so much!
  13. I want to work with people who have neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's, Huntington's and ALS. I mainly think I want to do voice therapy with this population but I probably won't know until I am in school.
  14. And I am also waitlisted at GW so we are totally in the same boat! Dumb waitlists. UDC is easier to get into than GW though, right? There's still hope!!!
  15. I bit the bullet and called Columbia Teacher's College today. The nice woman I spoke with said mid-March. Just a few more weeks!
  16. I need to keep reminding myself two years isn't that long. My husband and I are both older though (I'm almost 30 and he's almost 32) so we were kinda planning on having a baby while I was in grad school. Not going to happen if we don't live together! Oh well. End of March is my best guess. On the Next Step TC page it says mid-March but I think that is just a general Teacher's College thing. My husband and I actually live basically on Columbia's campus (he's in his last year of law school there) so I could march myself down there and ask, but I don't want to appear pushy.
  17. I am just holding out hope for Columbia! But I don't know...I really doubt I'm going to get it. So frustrating! If I don't get into Columbia there is a big chance my husband and I will have to live in different states for two years. COME ON COLUMBIA!
  18. I live in NYC and applied to NYU (and am waitlisted). One of my friends went there for the Speech Masters program and really liked it. She did say that they are in this sort of transition where they are trying to go towards a more clinical program. More research and papers by the faculty and whatnot. She also said that they are disorganized, but in all honesty all large institutions are disorganized. I also have a good friend at Teacher's College Columbia (not in the Speech program) who said they are so disorganized it's laughable. I think the school is what you make of it. If you come to visit NYC and you like it, NYU will be a good fit for you. The Village is one of my favorite areas of the city! Enjoy it when you are here!
  19. Anyone hear anything from Columbia University-Teacher's College. I know last year they didn't start sending out decisions until mid to late March but I was hoping maybe we would hear earlier. Has anyone called and asked?
  20. I applied there last year and was rejected. I got different reccomenders and took a class at GW this summer as well as the GREs, but I just feel like it's not going to happen. If I got waitlisted at NYU then I probably won't get into Columbia.
  21. I was waitlisted at NYU too...and it was my first choice. Super upset. I hate not knowing what is going to happen.
  22. Thanks for responding and congrats to you! Another question to the people who got into NYU: did you apply to the two year program or the re-entry program? I applied to the re-entry program and am just curious. Thanks! Sorry for all the questions. I just recently found out I have to be in NYC for another year as my husband got a clerkship there. Now I may not be able to go to grad school if I don't get into NYU (I'm kind of counting on not getting into Columbia).
  23. To the people who got into NYU: did your status change on the application website? Just wondering. Thanks!
  24. Yes I am sure they interviewed the last couple of years. From what I hear it is a very informal interview but it does provide the opportunity to meet them in person!
  25. So last year at right around this time people started getting interview invitations to NYU. Waiting to hear from them has me so stressed out. I really just want to get in somewhere!
