  1. Hey OutThere - I know that all the interview invitations have all been sent out for NW IPTD. But I have also received a formal rejection from them, like Seeking. The fact that you've heard nothing leads me to believe that you are maybe on the waiting list. Good luck.

salvatura - that's a tough one. For some reason, I like the idea of School #1. If you really love all the faculty and the students all seem genuinely happy, AND you'll be able to keep up your creative practice - what could be better? At any rate, when I read your message, I get the feeling that it's where you really want to go. If I were you, my second choice would be School #3, just based on the built-in practical requirement. But... what do I know?!

  2. Bats,

Would you like to share about your Brown interview? Were you also asked about performance theory?

Clifford is certainly lucky, but let's not lose hope. Gradually, we'll also hear from the schools. Though how gradually is a matter of debate! :)

The interview went very well, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. We spoke in some detail about my project, including some in-depth inquiry (which I think I handled rather well) and they asked me about my interest in Brown, etc. Pretty much how Clifford described it.

  3. Seriously. I never would have thought that my perception of time could change so dramatically based on this stuff.

Regardless, I still haven't heard a thing from any of my schools.

One good interview, but nothing solid, and otherwise, total silence. I have great envy for Clifford - it must be nice to have heard back from nearly everyone! Congratulations on your successes.

  4. It sounds to me like you are in the finalist group. However, that whole (unfunded) graduate student conference invitation is a bit vague and confusing. There are definitely some mixed messages at play here interest/funding-wise.

Regardless, I'd be feeling good about things if I were you. Seems promising. And for what it's worth, I also applied there and I haven't heard anything.

  5. I am not hearing good things about UCI's drama program from hardcore drama students, but after thorough research I'm really jazzed about it, so interdisciplinary and flexible. Do you know anything about it's informal reputation? What are your interests/programs?

I have a friend who went through the UCI/SD program and he loved it, but he told me it probably wasn't right for me. My interests are in the realm of avant-garde histories and theories of creative logic.

  6. ive applied for 9 programs but i really dont know where i stand. i am 35, with bushels of experience making work, performing, and teaching. my recs and statements are bold and strong. i worry about my antique undergrad GPA (3.24) and my 5 year old unpracticed-for GRE score (560/780/4.5).

who do i even think i am applying for these schools, for applying to Brown and Stanford and UCLA and Northwestern and Berkeley.... but sometimes i think i am definitely going to get it. i've done so much, i've proven myself!

essentially, i am lost. i have no clue.

    anybody else? any insight?

    other worries or relaxing?

  7. So, now it's 2012... I'm applying to a number of theatre/performance phd programs as well as the media, art, text phd at VCU. I'm 35, and I've got a great deal of professional creative experience and teaching experience, but my undergrad GPA is average, as are my GRE scores. I do have strong LsOR and I feel good about my SOP, but who knows...

Anyone else out there in the ether? I feel like I could get in everywhere or nowhere. It's a strange feeling. To have no idea where I really stand in this world of process. I have alot of confidence, but I don't know if it is valued. ... Now, I'm ranting..

Regardless, I'd love to hear about how you are feeling. Let's form a little context for ourselves.

applying: stanford, berkeley, ucsb, ucd, ucla, northwestern, ut, brown, vcu
