If its a candidate in your mind then you dont have much time but probably enough time to arrange a few phone calls. I would do some prep work and then get in contact. Weekend or not if they really want you then at the very least the DGS will give you an hour to try and convince you to attend. If not then dont think too hard about it and pick from your existing offers.

Well done on making your decision. I think its brave as I dont know anybody who would turn down both Princeton and Stanford for anywhere other than Harvard. I think it shows you thought long and hard about it, which is to be admired.

Do you think Princeton will come out today? It was this day last year they came out I think.

I am wondering if it would be a mistake to ask faculty about their future plans? I know that when it comes to faculty moving university its not straight forward but what about retirement? Five years is a long time so would it be a valid question and how could you bring it up gently?

I am sorry but this is just silly. You sat the GRE to apply to US universities but for some strange reason think they are not entitled to expect you to speak the language they work in. If you were applying to Japan you would need to speak Japanese so why does the USA get special treatment?? Victims of their own success?? I am sure there are universities that teach in your native language so there is nobody forcing you to study in the US, its your choice!!

I see that two people have now been rejected by phone at Vanderbilt. The first person has already claimed it and said they ran out of patience but whats the deal with the second? It would be odd if a department called with rejections??

What do you mean by this? Is it that there are other departments (Sociology, Economics etc.) within the University where you can take courses and they are/can be good compliments to the standard training?
