  1. But wait I'm gonna do some eh...arguments but maybe later...
  2. JHU is very kind too, give me the fellowship, send me mega brochrues, and JHU is very smart, but being smart does not mean being good...
  3. Which one? A.Harvard B.HYP C.HYPS D.HYPS+MIT E.HYP+UPenn+Columbia+Stanford+MIT F.Top10:HYP+UPenn+Columbia+ (Non Ivy)Stanford+MIT+Duke +UChicago+Caltech+ WashU G.Ivy League+ Stanford+MIT
  4. Yale, please. You are so excellent... I plan to apply for Harvard, but I didn't. I only got Columbia and UPenn Mechanical Engineering. But if I were you, I will go to Yale because both Columbia and Yale are not very strong in ME, then why not choose the "HYP" ?
  5. It seems that no one cares about this...
  6. Something I don't understand... I've seen many people, including those who are in Stanford right now, are talking about "Don't go to Stanford just beacause of its big name" "Stanford is not your best choice you should go to another prgram in XXX" "You will be foolish , stupid to go to Stanford but you will be smart to XXX" They have many reasons talking like that, but maybe the most important reason or so called essential reason is that ------ "Stanford is trumpery!!! Although Stanford is famous around the world, it is not as strong as we may believe and it's expensive!!!. If you go to Stanford, the employer will not hire you, because you came from Stanford, a university not strong enough, going to Stanford will be a wasting money, so please go to universities who give you fellowship or any other finacial aids. People in the world will not care about you because Stanford only got its big name..." First of all, we all know that the university you enter will not really help you to become a successful individual, it depends on ourselves. If we find the path or work hard or... can't we still be very successful after we graduated from Stanford even if Stanford is argubly not stronger than any other universities ? Those who drop out of school can be trillionaires, so, why do we think for sure that we can't earn back our money? Second, why the hell does Stanford get its big name when it has so many weaker programs, why is Stanford always ranked among top5 in USNews & World Report, while others except "HYP+ MIT+CIT" aren't? Third, we need to construct a social network and the reason is that we will not work alone , so why don't we want to build it with stronger people even when they are not in the very same field with us? Fouth, even if Stanford is really a trumpery, but what about others, like UT-Austin, Berkely, Harvard, UIUC, Columbia......and what about those who are so called "ranked" in 1#, 2#,3 #, 100#, 200#? Is the ranking we mentioned a trumpery?? I mean ...may be Stanford is ranked in 50 in XX program in our opinons, not strong enough, but is the XX ranked in 1# really stronger or how much stronger can it be ? I don't understand...
  7. Wow!!! It's very kind of u to reply so much...so good... and congratulations for your acceptance of Stanford!!!!!! I've checked the EMTM, but it needs at least 5 years of working experience, so... maybe later. And accroding to your description, I like to say ME of UPenn is a great place for me. But I need to go to where school's graduates make salaries in the range that I want to make. So, could you please provide me some information of the range of the salaries that UPenn ME graduates make?
  8. Haha, thx a lot They are almost the same except in different cities and that's why I felt difficult to make a decision...
  9. Dilemma... I was accepted offer of admissions to the MS programs in Mechanical Engineering at Columbia University and at University of Pennsylvania. I'm good at Solid Mechanics. Getting high income and high salary job in industry or in finance and consulting is my goal. My plan is that some years down the road I will go for MBA in Harvard Business School. Which one should I choose? UPenn Pros: 1.For career: "One university" policy allows me to take courses in Wharton! 2.Ranking: little Higher than that of Columbia UPenn : No.7 for colleges ; No.29 for Mechanical Engineering Columbia: No.8 for colleges; No.32 for Mechanical Engineering(according to "US News & World Report") 3.Ivy League Cons: 1.The acceptance rate is much more higher than that in Columbia!!! 2.Reputation: Not as famous as Columbia around the World!!! 3.For career: not strong in engineering, its school of engineering has only a short history 4.City: a Boring city ! Expecially when comparing to New York! Columbia Pros: 1.For career: the university helps every Master student in Mecanical Engineering to get an internship and maybe a job... 2.Oppotunities: there are much more interviews in New York 3.Ivy Leagure;Small Program where student-faculty ratio is about 7 to 1, therefore professors have more time to "deal with me" 4.Faculty members in the department have received outstanding Teaching Awards. Cons: 1.Not strong in engineering either 2.New York is wonderful but it is also dangerous and so wonderful that can easily distract people from their study. Could you give me some advice?

About 16.9%!!! while in Columbia is only 10% Columbia Pros: 1.For career: the university helps every Master student in Mecanical Engineering to get an internship and maybe a job... 2.Oppotunities: there are much more interviews in New York 3.Ivy Leagure;Small Program where student-faculty ratio is about 7 to 1, therefore professors have more time to "deal with me" 4.Faculty members in the department have received outstanding Teaching Awards. 11. Before I tell you my theory, I gonna tell you a story first: Friend 1: "My best friend from Penn got a Rolex from his dad over dinner at graduation right in front of me. I graduated from Penn too a year ago, so I came back to my parents and asked 'Where's my Rolex?'" Friend 2: "Haha, I bet they were like 'hmph.' But if my kids graduate from a top university, I'd probably buy them that watch. Would you?" Friend 2: "Only if it's one above Penn, heh... Okay, maybe Penn or better." Friend 1: "Well, that's ridiculous. You're basically saying they have to graduate from HYPS to get a Rolex... Otherwise, they'll have to buy their own watch." Friend 1: "Fuck 'em. They can buy a Timex." HYPS=Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford You may say "Oh, a PHD in UW is so good, so attractive!!!" But I tell you that "Anything you can do in UW can definitely be done in Stanford." So, why choose UW?
