Evanston is pretty safe. Anywhere between S. Blvd to Central st (North-South) and east of ridge ave. During the first few yrs when you are taking classes living in evanston makes commute easier especially during winter.
1 small mall with a movie theater!!! A nice lake and park by the lake - Lake Charles!!! Houston (2 hrs), Beaumont (1 hr), Baton Rouge (2.5 hrs) are the bigger cities nearby!!
Its a nice little southern town. Living is very economical there. On campus housing is kinda on the expensive side. There is this place called University Square which is right across the street from campus - they have nice studios (basically a 1 bedroom) for about $400. You can also find 2 bedrooms around campus for about 600 depending on what you're looking for. Its a fairly safe town. I only heard occasional instances of crime but fairly safe. There is not much to do in the town by itself. I suggest living close to campus. A regular college town to be precise.
Hi, I have been accepted to the Materials Science (PhD) at Northwestern. I recently visited NU and from what i have heard it is hard to find housing on campus, let alone it being expensive. Most apartments in and around evanston go for about $750 (Studio/1bd rm) and two bedrooms are about $1100. I still haven't made up my mind whether to stay in a studio all by myself or in a 2 bedroom with a room mate. I'd say craigslist is the best place to look for apts or apartmentpeople.com.
I was accepted to Northwestern (Materials Science Phd Fall 2012) via phone. I haven't gotten any emails from them yet and it still shows on the website that an admission decision has not been rendered yet. Did anyone get any emails. Just wondering!!!!! Does anyone know when are they sending out formal letters/emails.
