  1. I see on the MFA Draft '13 Facebook group that some people are already getting acceptances.
  2. Anyone know anything about Lake Charles? Specifically cost of living and safety/crime? I'm thinking about applying to McNeese's MFA program since it's free and they only ask for your writing sample and a letter up front.
  3. I have heard bamboo is a good plant for cleaning the air, and they are very easy to take care of. I got the stalks at a store in the mall called Earth Bound and planted them in glass stones in bowls. All you have to do is water them with non-chlorinated water.
  4. I only applied to University of Arkansas. It will be kind of a miracle if I get in. Number of posts ... I think.
  5. I know it's a little early for acceptance/rejection notices. Anyone else on here apply for the CW MFA this year? Where did you apply? What's your top choice? Freak-outs welcome.
  6. I just popped into this thread to say that I envy you visual artists. You get to post your portfolios willy-nilly and get feedback.
  7. I already have my MA, and I am going for an MFA. I just filed my FAFSA for 2013/14. It just occurred to me that they might not fund a second master's.
  8. Thanks! Maybe I will start worrying about other people's apps now too lol. I think it's worse now that the whole thing is out of my hands. The person I emailed with from Arkansas said it could be as late as April 1 before I hear anything. It's going to be a long four months.
  9. I found out today that the application I have been freaking out over was received and processed, so the post office didn't eat it. Now the long wait until April 1.
  10. A question for everyone - If the tracking on my application packet says "delivery status not updated," does that mean they lost it? I'm about to cry. I sent it USPS Priority Mail.
  11. I like Pages better than Word myself, but there can be compatibility issues if you have to send attachments. You have to save the file as a .doc and sometimes it won't open on the other person's computer. Footnotes, headers, etc, are very easy to do in Pages. Keynote, the presentation program that comes with Apple iWork, is amazingly better than PowerPoint, and you can even save the files as quicktime movie. I can't imagine typing papers on an iPad or any other tablet though.
  12. ^I do now. Thanks, I didn't even think of that! I'm hoping they are just holding mail for the school and it will be delivered tomorrow. I'm really wishing I had just driven it up there myself now.
  13. Reading these posts, I am really glad I don't have kids to worry about yet! If I don't get in anywhere, I'm going to start sending query letters to agents and publishers. I have been saving my novel to workshop it first if I get into a program. I may also buy a new car with the money I have been squirreling away.
  14. Now I am really losing my mind. My application to Arkansas was supposed to have been there on Dec 29. I keep checking several times a day and still no delivery confirmation. According to the USPS website, it's sitting at the Fayetteville post office. I'm praying it's safe and sound, but I keep worrying something bad might have happened to it. The school is supposed to have opened today. It's my top choice too.
  15. If you didn't earn enough to file, that in itself qualifies as demonstrating need. I have filled them out in years I did not file taxes and it was no problem. You just choose the "will not file" option and it asks you questions from there.
