I applied to 5 public health PhD programs. I've heard from UT Houston and Emory that the applications were fwded to the departments, but nothing since. I was rejected from Ohio State less than a week after my application was final - I'm assuming my POI already had someone lined up, or wasn't taking on students (I really didn't fit with any other faculty either). It was at the bottom of my safe schools and I'm pretty sure I'm a viable candidate for better programs, so it really didn't bother me. That said, it was a pretty quick decision! So if you've applied there and haven't heard back, it's probably a good sign!

I really hope the lack of rejections isn't an indication of the size of the wait list. So far I'm the only wait listed person I see at my top choice, which has me quite hopeful! I'm assuming other wait listed folks just haven't been notified or just don't visit this forum. I was contacted by the DGS personally, which is probably because the DGS is my POI and we've spoken multiple times, so it isn't necessarily an indicator of my position on the wait list, and certainly doesn't mean I'm the only wait listed person. My guess is there are plenty of folks on here in the 2nd tier pile, and you just haven't been notified.

I got the same email today. I would kind of be surprised if I got rejected considering my contact with a POI (I won't get into the details). That said, I've come to terms with a rejection to save myself some disappointment. I may be a little too critical of myself, but I think I could have written a much better SOP, and my quant skills are not really reflected in any number or grade, but in my 5 years in research. We'll find out soon enough!

Doesn't "other" cover that? And there's a typo in Q3 - "apply" is missing the "l."
