currently (re)reading this myself, at the tail end of Rimbaud's complete works. also reading some Whitman. Beckett's Malloy trilogy and Baudrillard's Simulacra and Simulation are on deck. hoping to convince myself to make space for Proust in the near future. -

out of curiousty, how specific of a project did you outline in your SOP? did you talk to people in the department? I looked briefly at that program and much more seriously at the more or less equivalent one at Minnesota, but I didn't apply to either because it looked like I wouldn't really have a shot if I wasn't willing and able to essentially turn my SOP into a mini dissertation prospectus. I was neither willing nor able. In your experience, is this a reasonably accurate conclusion? -

I'm coming for you, CUNY Grad sometimes in life you're going to see people you don't like. even in academia (lol joke). it's not a big deal, I promise. I see them every time I roll out of bed, including when I look in the mirror. -

if rem was not ready to come to the defense of her therapist, than her therapist would not be her therapist. oh, how many thousands of other words I could write here than you would not read! here is what I do know: rem's therapist said what she said he said, unless rem is a sociopath. here's what else I know: what rem's therapist said is really dumb. -

As a (the?) vet here, I'm going to say what every vet will say, and what none of you will listen to: just forget about it you have a choice: make your life miserable for the next two months, or make it slightly less miserable. it's all on you. in a process where you have virtually no say, this is the one thing you can do. don't troll the results board, don't spend all day and night dreaming up stupid questions and scenarios to post on grad cafe, don't look at last year, don't email schools, don't reload the status section of your app at DumbFuck U every thirty seconds come Feb 1, don't don't don't. don't do shit. go get laid. if you have a master's thesis to write, you poor sap, then close your browser. literally every second you spend here instead of there can only hurt you. choices. -
I feel like I would sacrifice myself for the good of humanity if there existed a genie able to take my life in exchange for removing the word pretentious from the English language Just think about why the whaling industry stuff is in Moby Dick how do you hate the sound and the fury. the first time I read it it was so good that I felt sad that other people had read it, like it had been improperly used. yes, this is how I operate. Absalom, Absalom! is probably better than The Sound and the Fury, but you won't want to have sex with it as much. and you absolutely should not read it if you didn't like S&F. and you absolutely should not read it before you read S&F
