you're killin me here, India

My understanding is that people have had some difficulty getting verification, but the IIE WILL let you know if they haven't received your transcript. Seems a lot of the concern about transcripts arriving assumes these hard copies are needed for the host countries to make their final decisions (ie "What if I get rejected because my transcript got lost in the mail?"). But since notifications have started coming before transcripts are due (March 1), the more likely scenario is that host countries get the same electronic version as the US committee, and that the official hard copy transcripts are simply part of the IIE's due diligence process, to preclude the possibility of another Adam Wheeler situation.

Yeah that's the key question...been having trouble figuring that out

India applicants and perhaps some others might be interested to know that the Fulbright-Nehru Scholar awards (post doc/faculty-level fellowship) were announced this past Friday. If these awards and our student F-N awards go through roughly the same channels/committees then perhaps Friday's faculty fellowship announcements are a sign that student notifications are coming soon?

yeah truth be told I'm always about to pee myself

touché, though I hope you'll still give knitting a try.

At the risk of kicking the hornet's nest, I almost peed my pants laughing when I saw this just now. No disrespect, but if I found myself getting 'so angry' about e-mail subject line spoilers, I'd probably start to wonder if perhaps I'd lost a bit of perspective between October and now...then I'd probably take up knitting to deal with my email anger issues.

From my FPA: "Dear All, Surprise, surprise, the results have started to come in with Indonesia leading the way. Please pay close attention to your messages and check your junk mail just in case. Here’s to good news!"
-
FPA just e-mailed recommended applicants at my school saying that FINAL RESULTS ARE COMING IN...so far just Indonesia...

Got an e-mail from my FPA a couple days ago saying the IIE sent all FPA's a heads-up e-mail indicating that selection notifications will likely come earlier than usual this year. She also made a point of saying notifications will be arriving via e-mail this year (in past years it's been snail mail, at least for selected individuals). ...this must be what it feels like to throw raw meat to a pack of wild dogs...except instead of raw meat it's largely useless, soon-to-be completely moot hearsay, and instead of a pack of wild dogs it's a far more ravenous and dangerous collective of type A's...

Yes, consecutive...first application was for UK, second and third for India.

I was actually gonna say the same thing as there'sanappforthat (incl. disclaimer that I hope it doesn't sound mean). The biggest difference between this year and my previous two attempts was the mindset I had going in. The first two times I focused on selling my credentials, and why my project is the natural next step for me, and for my field. This time I went into it with the following mindset (in brief, exaggerated form): they don't really care how great I am, and they don't really care why my project is important/interesting/essential from my standpoint. They want to know why my project is important/interesting/essential to the host country, how the project creates a dialogue between the US and the host country, and why I'm just the person to facilitate that dialogue. It's a much different approach than most of us are used to, because for 99% of the applications we submit the idea is to sell yourself and your credentials. That's my 2 cents, anyway...

Recommended for full grant in India. To those not recommended, do not give up...this was my third try, and it wouldn't have happened without everything I learned the first two times around.

yeah, exactly like a lottery ticket...I pour my heart and soul into every lotto number I pick at random

I feel like Schrodinger's cat right now

Slightly less sympathy for anyone freaking out in paradise.

persistent, or just bat-shit crazy.

The extra day will be torture, I know, but if I've learned anything from the past two rejection experiences it's to savor these hours leading up to the notification..they're nerve-wracking, sure, but also exciting like nothing else...right now anything's still possible.
-
Thursday, and I'd applied for a full grant if that matters. Actually this is my third try...the year before I got my rejection at 6:47pm EST, also on a Thursday.
-
I concur...last year I got my rejection email at 6:03pm EST.

hoping it's the kind of idea that's just crazy enough to work

India full grant here
-
Hi all, PhD student here applying for research grant to India, just wanted to say good luck to everyone as we get closer to next Thursday. I know it sounds cliche, but if there's anything I learned from the last two experiences (this is my third attempt) it's that the best approach going in is to have zero expectations. If things don't work out (knock on wood) the woulda/coulda/shouldas won't haunt you so badly; as one particularly wise man once said, "if you ain't got nothin', you got nothin' to lose".
