yup still waiting...have emailed them again (like i was asked to do). i think my application was used to line their cupboards.

I wrote to Chicago on Friday, the 7th, and got a reply saying that most of the decisions had been made by now & emails sent. And in case i hadn't heard anything by the end of this week to let her know. sigh. more bad news. what else.

all my sympathy...i'm 0-7 now and am frantically trying to think of plan b. retire to the hills and write the book that grad students will someday slog over??

If this is true I may as well start looking for a job at the nearest shopping mall.

welll...not so much a backup as an almost sure shot...the profs i corresponded with in the department were hugely enthusiastic about my research topics..how they would love to work with me on philip larkin...blah blah de blah. so it was quite a shock i guess. i dunno. i feel like im playing pinball with the universe.

great way to start the week...rejection from virgina (which was my back up. lol)...second rejection so far. where is the nearest tallest building on the block?

and it's another week gone without hearing a thing really, do they think i have nothing else to do but sit around and check my email all day??!! bah. humbug.

oh that is exciting! what exactly are you looking to specialise in? my life is strangely and not so amusingly beginning to resemble waiting for godot. absurd to say the least. i still haven't heard anything (apart from duke)....i'm hoping no news is good news? or maybe not. i just want this to be over!

hey cauldron...so sorry to hear about northwestern u still have about 8 more schools to go right? there will be good news soon for you...just hang in there. of course the lesson to be learnt here is "do not leave the bar".

boston university....although why i bothered to apply ANYWHERE remains a mystery to me! rejected by duke (swift and clean like an amputation) and there hasn't been a peep from any others...apart from stanford who very helpfully sent out an email saying "all successful applicants will be notified by phone on the 29th of Feb....rejections will be sent by mail"....and now i wait & wait, the axe is being polished, sharpened..and soon it shall fall. im standing in line before the guillotine.

At the following places: Stanford Tufts Berkeley WashU Virginia Columbia Duke Yale UMD Boston i feel ill, i feel ill...most of the day. it doesn't get better does it? have offers actually started coming in? its tooo early!!! im not prepared!

Hi warmclay! welcome! interesting research topic...one of my main areas of interests includes something similar...the representation of literature in dystopian fiction...1984, Farenheit 451, WE...also the idea of the "blank book". i applied to 10 school, went thoroughly Broke, AND did my gre subject. i'm now passing the bowl around for "save the ambitious graduate student fund".

all these geographical considerations are mind boggling...i'm an international student. would gorgeous, sprawling campus close to cosmopolitan city (where i can eat sushi & drink sake) be too much to ask? just give me an admissions offer. anybody. somebody. please.

Hi Schamber, let's see..we've both applied to the following four (what i like to term as my shots in the dark): stanford yale chicago berkeley the subject GRE was like being hit by a bus to be honest! and it didnt help that the school neighboring my test centre was having its annual sports day....figuring out milton and donne amidst cheers & track announcements is not fun. at all. but having said all that, it didnt go too badly. how about you? if i don't get a single admissions offer, i'm retiring to the himalayas.

hello hello...did everyone have a good holiday season? i dont think i noticed new years eve go by...everyday feels the same...wake up, check mail, check online tracking systems for 10 univs, shoot off frantic email about supplementary material, wait until next day to do it all over again. forgot to add "panic about ETS mixing up my GRE scores." hi schamber...we seem to have quite a few univs in common...four in fact! good luck

sigh. i should have known it wouldn't be that simple. rather incompetent this ETS machine...(btw they made me pay TWICE for my subject GRE..as though $150 is not a large enough amount)...sorry to hear about the packet gone missing minnesotan...that really sucks!!! i have been constantly checking for updates on my various online applications..BUT how on earth would i know IF goddamn ETS sent the wrong scores to the universities!? I havent even received the letters from them yet...which are meant to convey my official score reports. Bah. humbug.

welcome grifter! good luck with sending all your applications out i'm "almost" done...one more round of paper recos to send off..and those blasted GRE scores...anybody here knows whether i can request for score extra reports to be sent BEFORE i've gotten the official paper report from ETS?? i do know my scores (GRE General shows it immediately after the exam, and for GRE Lit i called to get my scores over the phone) but the letters are taking ages to get me to & im worried that the universities will have a problem with late scores. any ideas minnesotan?!

wow..there's all of three people applying this year?! thought this thread would be a little more active! anyway...i've sent everything (apart from 5 paper recos which my prof still hasnt produced!)....but get a niggling feeling that the tough part has only just begun...three months of waiting!!!! y cant they just let me know Now? get it all over with. done. c'est fini. nada. sigh.

wow...something i admittedly know nothing about, but sounds extremely impressive! when you say "got an application" do you mean you've finished sending everything off? (jealous jealous). my interest area is fairly straightforward...20th cen brit lit...so yeah a whole lotta dead white people! namely philip larkin & george orwell do you think i'd up my chances if i were applying for a degree in post-colonial/super-feminist/marginalized/medieval deconstructionist/i'm running out of jargon/yadayadayada literature?! ps: i do agree about the binge drinking. although i also seem to now seek refuge in sugar crackers.
